5th Avenue, Brooklyn Style

Jun 19, 2009 12:10

I don't want to stereotype and say that the 5th Avenue by us is ghetto, but...it's totally ghetto.

Observe. Today I walked behind a proud father carrying his son lovingly in his arms. The boy could not be much older than Gabriel. (Although, with the Kraken, who knows. The kid might have been in kindergarten, for all my ability to judge the age of other babies.) And yet...and yet.

And yet the little boy wore a shiny gold bracelet, wide enough to proclaim to the world, "Please see me in about 16 years, and I will gladly sell you some drugs."

I very much wanted to approach the father and ask him simply, "Why?" but I was afraid that he would signal some strategically placed snipers to take me out. And anyway they then walked into a pet store that I'm pretty sure is a front for something unwholesome, as every time I pass it, while there are no pets anywhere to be seen anywhere near it there are, however, scary-looking guys hanging out menacingly by the door.

I think we need to get Gabriel a "Future Coke Dealers of America" bracelet.
