I know why I'm not enjoying SPN like I used to...
I don't talk a lot about my shows here because I don't meta very well. I've never been one to look deeper and analyze so most of my reactions are mostly, "OMG! That was awesome!" or "OMG! I didn't like that at all." But with, SPN, I've been able to boil down the reason why I'm not happy with the current mytharc.
The characters aren't giving me much hope.
The show I fell in love with was all about "saving people, hunting things." Two brothers on the road searching for their missing father and killing bad guys along the way. They were the good guys. You totally rooted for them.
And then when the angels came long, I thought, "Hey! the good guys have some major firepower on their side!" Oh, how wrong I was.
Right now, Dean is our only clear good guy. And while I love him, he seems to be the only one out there fighting for what's right. I want to see some organization on the part of the hunters. Everything's going to hell in a handbasket, and it's no longer one-on-one combat. Dean needs some help here. He can't do it alone!
Yeah, I know. The real world doesn't have a lot of happy endings, blah, blah, blah. But this is fantasy. Good should always triumph over evil. But I'm not seeing a whole lot of good here, and it's bothering me.
Now, there were cute parts to last night's episode. Dean trying to help Cass lose his virginity was kind of funny. And Lucifer is pretty darn interesting villain. (He's the best kind, thinking he's the hero of his own story.) I mean, who didn't see "Sam is Lucifer's vessel" coming? I pegged that at the beginning of last season.
But I'm tired of the gloom and doom. We've angsted, the world is ending, so what? Pick yourself up by your bootstraps and kill some demons and maybe some annoying angels along the way. Let's be a little more proactive here.
Now, remember, this is just my opinion. Different people like different things, and I completely respect that. If we all liked the same stories, it would be very boring indeed.:)
