Why is it that men never grow up?

My little brother called me in a state on Tuesday afternoon. He has his own handy man business and his ex-girlfriend had been doing his bookkeeping (and drawing an excessive wage from the company) until this week when things got nasty. He discovered that she’d been stealing money from his account again (this isn’t the first time and despite taking all the necessary steps to keep her out, she managed to get in and transfer some considerable amounts).

Anyway, he needed someone to do go through his books, close out January and basically take on the monthly reconciliation / quarterly tax reporting, because he has no idea how to do that, so he called his big sister.

On Tuesday afternoon I got him ready to go to my accountant (who happens to be our uncle), because despite being told to, the ex hadn’t prepared his books for tax audit and that should have happened last July.

Wednesday morning he was on my doorstep with chocolates and flowers (he actually remember that I love orchids) to thank me for coming over the day before and putting his mind at ease. I headed to his place on Wednesday afternoon to close out January for him and reconcile his bank accounts.

So I have a job! I can’t see it taking more than one day a month (less if I can get him to shut the hell up while I’m working) to do what he needs me to and he’s going to pay me for my time.

In between all of that time together, he’s called me… well, I’ve lost count how many times. He even called me to ask which was the best way to get to the accountant’s office (he’s in the same place he’s been since before my little brother was born!) and insisted on discussing the options while looking at the place on Google. I also get a call every time the ex calls him *screams* It’s like he’s reverted to a little boy again… the little boy who needed his big sister to take care of everything for him!

During all of this I've been trying to prepare my own books, because my quartly tax report is due the first week of March and I have a Main Roads audit next week.

Wish me luck!
