We went to swimming lessons, as usual, this morning, and about half way through the lesson Mitch was pulled out of his class and made to swim some laps for the instructors in charge of the morning and the afternoon lessons. I kept a close eye on what was happening, but stayed away (thinking I’d ask Mitch what it was all about after his lesson). I didn’t get to ask Mitch, because they sent him back to his class and immediately sought me out to ask if I would mind if they promoted him from stage 7 to stage 10. Needless to say, I said they could and that it would please Mitch immensely. He’s always had difficulty with stupid technical bits of strokes (like keeping both feet turned out in breaststroke *rolls eyes* which the more experienced instructor said was rubbish at his age) and that’s how Tori managed to pass him, despite starting lessons two years later than he did. So, Mitch is now a level ahead of Tori (and doesn’t have to worry about technical crap, because it’s not looked at in these higher stages), and I’ve had to swap all three kids to afternoon lessons (it made sense to do so, because Mitch had to change times).
All three had double lessons today, though the instructor in charge made it known to the new teachers that they’d already done a lesson, and if they appeared tired it was to be forgiven today. Tori’s class is much better - there’s only four of them :) Mitch is much happier now that he’s not wasting time perfecting a stroke that’s never going to happen - he’s a strong swimmer, and he’s been very frustrated over the last few years that he wasn’t being rewarded for his efforts. I don’t know about Maddy yet - apparently, she and another girl in her class were allowed to basically do what they wanted for part of the lesson, because the teacher wanted to work with the rest of the group and those two could already do whatever it was >.< I’ll watch her lesson tomorrow and talk to the instructor in charge (who I’ve actually known for years, through swimming lessons) if need be.
I spoke to Tori’s best friend’s mum tonight about what’s expected in stage 10, because unlike stages 1 to 9, there is no public list available of what is required for stages 10 to 16, and she is a swimming teacher *g* She knows Mitch well and has been watching him swim for years, and doesn’t think he’ll have any problem passing stage 10, and looking at the requirements neither do I :)
After swimming I had coffee for the last time with a very dear, old friend of mine (we went to school together). Well, I shouldn’t say for the last time, because we will most likely see each other again, but she is moving away - almost 1,700 kilometers away :( I will miss her desperately. She’s the one I used to spend my ‘me’ days with and we’d have so much fun. I am happy that she’s finally going to be reunited with her husband, who’s been up north for over four months straight now and that after four years up there they will be set for life. It’s the right move for them, but I am going to miss my coffee buddy.
Tomorrow it’s going to be 39C *melts* It’s probably a good thing that we’ll be at the pools for a few hours, isn’t it? *g*
