So the big difference between animal and human beings is consciencness, right? This for my is a confusing subject because it seems like it can't just be black and white. Like dolphins for example, have sex for fun. I am personally of the belief that dolphins have at least some level on consciencness, and most deffinatly the highest of all animals besides humans. I think for me this comes down to (at least somewhat) the ability to show affection. Animals do show affection, to us and to each other. No one can deny that. But what in nature could be the purpose of affection? It has nothing to do with reproduction or surviving (you might say animal help each other survive in some ways but that is not affection)or anything like that. I think that most advanced creatures obtain at least some level on consciencness. Especially mammals (maybe I only say that because I am biased being a mammal myself, but i don't ever recall lizards or fish being affectionate). And I think that one way to define conscieness is the ability to feel emotions, even on the most basic level. I mean, obiously dogs prefer some dogs over others, and even if that is just a basic "I like", that is still something. And come on, no one reading this wants to believe that their dog or cat or bunny or whatever only pays any attention to them because they feed it.I'm sure that this is the case sometimes, but other times, you know you have a special connection with an animal. And I believe that to some extent that has to be attributed to at least a minimal level of consciencness. More on this later I think...
