Rift Thinks Your Movie Sucks! - Part XVIII

Dec 04, 2010 23:06

Good God... I just finished typing this out, and my mind is blown. This is probably the longest movie review I've ever written here on my LJ... o_o;

Behind this cut is that other one that was "far too long" for me to group movies 3,4, and 5 in one post. What could I possibly hate more than Batman & Robin?! To think there are three more to go ( Read more... )

your movie sucks, movie reviews

Science Note:
IF they were going 11 (sustained) G's, they wouldn't be able to control their muscles, period, the shuttles would have to be on auto pilot. We'd be watching their faces flatten to their skulls, and the mining crew would have passed out (possibly the military pilots, too).

I don't think Bay even knows what the heck G forces are (oh, and not to forget centripetal acceleration, of the space station 'simulating' gravity).

Bullshit!

Actually every now and then they do suddenly find a asteroid or comet only a few days before or after it past us by and go 'oh fuck that was very close'.

18days is actually probably about the amount of time we'd get, that's pretty realistic really.

The rest is pretty horrible science though.

True, but something the "size of Texas" would show up an awful lot quicker, heh. Hell, they caught Apophis in 2004, and that sucker's not set to hit us until April 2036!

No, actually, it probably wouldn't. They generally find things like Apophis on accident, not by intentionally searching for them.

Actually, being that they've tracked it long enough to know where it's orbital pattern is, it's going to. It's not a killer asteroid. It's about the size of a stadium, so damage isn't going to "end the world".

By 2029, it's going to pass the earth close enough to where it will drop below our orbital satellites. It's not exactly precise just yet, but if it passes us by through this set "keyhole" they have calculated, it will hit us seven years later on its way back.

It'll cause coastal damage, being it's calculated to hit in the Pacific ocean. That's about it. It's not something I'm really concerned about, since I'm sure we'll have plenty of warning if it's certain to hit, so casualties should be kept to a minimum.

No way, man! All the bad science aside, this was a fun romp if you don't take it seriously. I can't believe you put this above Batman and Robin. It's not even close. This was a fun stupid while B&R was a painful stupid, so I find it hard to accept. Also, "Don't wanna miss a thing" was a kick ass song if you take it out of context of the movie. There's a reason it was at the top of the charts for weeks on end that year and it wasn't because of the movie.

I saw only 3 mins of this movie and it was all I needed to convince me that it was going to be crap.

As for the song I liked that, but then isn't that saying something if the licensed song is better than the movie that it was for?

"Did it hinder the action? Not in the slightest. In fact, making the scenarios more realistic makes them that much more exciting."

Dead space did that too with the sections that where in vacuum when all you could hear was the radio and your strained breathing, and it was a good tension builder. Only 30 seconds of air in a space suit though, that was a bit silly mind.

There's an old rumor that Ben Affleck actually did tell Michael Bay that it would make more sense to train astronauts to operate the drilling equipment, and Bay told him to shut up. I'd have to respect Ben if that actually happened.

Dunno if he actually SAID it, but I'd totally believe he thought this. Remember, Affleck's a damn good writer, and a surprisingly effective director.
