And other things that have me jumping for joy:
- Inoue Mao appearing on HnA and AnS - can't wait!!!
- Filming of ISWAK 3 - 'The Last Kiss'!! - although it seems like a rumour, and I’m apprehensive as to whether or not the script will be decent, I’m still excited
Music I'm listening to:
- 5x10 - yay for Arashi!
- Stand By U - I was unsure about this at first, since I still don't know much about DBSK/DBSG/TVXQ/Tohoshinki and have only heard a few of their songs since they appear everywhere, but now I love it! The lyrics are fantastic and very moving and there's something very soothing and emotional about the song.
- Katachi Aru Mono - I didn't really like it while watching Sekachu, but after listening to it several times and looking up the lyrics, I've grown to like it quite a bit. The lyrics are so moving, and I like the first verse and chorus most (probably because I've heard those parts the most)
Our wireless internet is finally back and running. I can't tell you how excited this makes me, since I have sorely missed making late night DLs (although my hard drive has enjoyed the little time it has been given to take a breather). Apparently mum has upgraded our account again, so it'll justify me spending more precious sleep time on the web. Right?
I can't believe how lazy I am with updating. I guess this once again proves why I have never been able to keep a diary/journal for longer than a week or 4 entries.
OK, in the absence of a segue, what's happening now?
UNI
Got 2 assignments due Monday, neither of which I have officially started. Since I'm working a full day in the city on Monday, I pretty much have to finish off both assignments tonight and hand them in tomorrow or something. SO NOT HAPPENING, so why am I wasting time now? I can't seem to scare myself into starting either assignment. Instead I kept distracting myself with past AnS eps or with the Kdrama 'Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang' which I only just finished today.
Also, Law Ball coming up this Thursday. I'm seriously dreading it, and wondering how I managed to convince myself that it would be worthwhile and that I would regret it if I didn't go. But if a ball is all about drinking and dancing, 2 things I am not a big fan of, what the heck am I going to do there!? Especially since I won't really know anyone except the girl who kindly asked if I would like to join her table since she was organising the tickets for her friends and knew that I hadn't been to the ball before.
Dramas
Due to our slow internet for the past week or so, I've been behind in my personal DL quota ^_^ But during the past week or so, I started watching 'Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang' , a drama which was recommended by my sister a while ago with a lot of enthusiasm, but I didn't get around to watching it till now. Past experience has taught me that my first impressions of any K- or Tw-drama are will often be quite different from my thoughts after watching the full series, yet I can't stop myself from making unfounded judgements after watching a mere snippet of the 1st episode. I had had the first 7 eps or so sitting on my hard drive as I had planned to DL the full series in time for our July holidays so that we could watch the drama in Qld, but obviously I wasn't able to DL as much as I had planned. The first ep seemed a bit strange at first, and when I asked my sister about the snapshot-type stills that is seen a few times in the 1st ep, I misunderstood her to mean that there was something wrong with the vid I had DLed.
But anyway, I've been lazy about DLing Jdramas recently, and have quite a few series burned onto discs which I haven't yet watched. Problem is, these series are either softsubbed or have relatively small hardsubs, so I can't convert the vids for my ipod nano. I have an awful habit of watching dramas under the covers while in bed, even if I'm dog tired, so these dramas will have to wait a while still. Luckily, DGCH was hardsubbed so I started watching the drama while DLing the later episodes. =
And I really enjoyed it :D As often happens, I watched one episode after another, especially towards the latter half where I couldn't wait to watch more even though our slow internet connection prevented me from completing my DLs (they all finished about half an hour ago, but I managed to finish watching the series about 4 hours ago!) The only other Kdramas I've watched (MNiKSS and Lovers in Paris) have both featured love contracts in their plots, and I subconsciously thought this drama would go in a similar vein, yet I can see now how much I enjoyed the general story. It was a very sweet love story with memorable leads, and I loved seeing the two fall for each other in such an unconventional way, being bound maritally in name only yet the two sharing a strong connection beneath the bickering and pranks.
Things that struck me about this drama:
- The overuse of the 'missed-by-a-hair' device in episode 15 - I was almost jumping up and down at all the times they nearly met face-to-face
- The ridiculous stunts - those scenes where they have someone falling are shot so weirdly that I can't help guffawing at how fake it all looks when Mong Ryong and Choon Hyang are falling in synchronised form from the rooftop of DoDo Productions
- What the hell happened to Choon Hyang's mum? Her second disappearanced served to get Mong Ryong and Choon Hyang together (their first romantic kiss!) but after that we never hear about her again. Surely Choon Hyang is even a little concerned about not hearing from her? I understand that not all loose threads can be tied up in dramas, but surely the existence of the lead's mother deserves full closure?
- Good performances, especially from the actors who played Mong Ryong and Mr Byuk. So much anguish and angst in their performances when the scenes called for it
- The character of Mong Ryong - so hilariously immature at times, yet he has a way of physically expressing his concern and feelings by immediately buying medicine or whatever, which is very sweet
- The parodies - although I didn’t really realise there were parodies of other Kdramas like Full House until I read a review later, I was still able to appreciate the parodies of the Chun Hyang legend. I especially liked the parody where Mr Byuk has a resigned expression on his face after Chun Hyang rejects his bribes and advances, then he pulls out a mobile phone and rings up Mong Ryung.
