History Lesson sequel is done! And then there was Abba.
Yup, it's finished. I might re-write the ending, since I wasn't overly pleased with it, but it's finally finished. Now I just have to type it up and send it to the beta. Hopefully she'll be done with angst cupids by that point.
The problem facing this fic is not actually that I don't have a title for it. It's that I have two. Well. One and a half. It's unfair, really. I have so many issues finding titles with other fics, but then one comes along and I've got two possibilities.
The first one is stealing from an Abba song. Let's face it, the last time I stole from an Abba song (yes, I have done this before, do not mock me) Telepathic Brigadier happened. Telepathic Brigadier was fun. Telepathic Brigadier technically wasn't even supposed to have happened, but the Brigadier was being a diva and demanding that it was for the good of world security that I feature him in that fic, and then he raised an eyebrow at me and expected me to fall in line with military precision. Not even Steve can puppy dog eyes into getting his way that quickly. You just don't say no to the Brigadier.
Sadly, there is not Telepathic Brigadier in this fic. "Take a Chance on Me" is definitely the song of the fic though, and I was singing it often enough that yeah, it'd make a pretty decent title. And let's face it, taking the Avengers out to KTV would be hilarious. Except now I'm picturing this like the live action Sailor Moon, where the karaoke store is their secret base of operations. Because that's how my mind does things, apparently, making everything into a shoujo anime. atsui kimochi ha C'est la vie!
Okay, yeah. Stopping while I'm ahead. Even if Nar is right and Thor would be awesome at karaoke.
The alternate title (which is the half) would be some kind of 'date' pun. I say 'some kind' because I haven't been bothered to sort one out yet. But really, the date pun would make sense. History Lessons was about history, and it's their first date, so I should really do a pun combining the two of them somehow. Except I keep singing Abba songs. There was something in the air that night, the stars were bright, Fernando. There was something there for you and me, for liberty, Fernando.
Actually, no. I take that back. I have three titles now. Because while "Take a Chance on Me" is Steve's side of the story, and it is his point of view, Tony is totally "Waterloo". I can even work that song in, since Tony could reference it. And it's historical. Damn it, why does this fic get all the good titles? Picture Tony in those awful 70's outfits dancing like one of his arc reactor girls. You know you want this.
Wasn't I supposed to be stopping while I was ahead? Yeah, that's apparently not working out too well for me. This is probably a sign that I haven't had enough crack in my life recently. Pandas might be necessary, because this is getting extremely out of hand.
Really though, that would make an awesome and cracky (or serious for some songs) challenge. Write all the fics that are based on Abba songs. Any fandom, any pairing, all Abba. And if you can work in "Slipping Through My Fingers" or "Fernando", I would love you. I've got a weakness for those and "Chiquitita". Actually, I have a long standing weakness to a lot of Abba songs, but we won't go there. Think of the crack "Does Your Mother Know That You're Out" could spur.
I'm going to step away from the computer slowly now. That seems like the best thing to do.
