So, where to start...
Well I had last weekend off thanks to Matt (one of my supervisors at Pier 1) So Michaela and I planned to have a romantic picnic in the Sandia Mountains. Well technically it was mostly me planning and Michaela going along with it.
Anywho, I get some directions online they're pretty simple,
-Take I40
-Turn left onto NM14
-Continue on to NM536
-picnic wherever you like
So anywho, I had baught Michaela a picnic basket for her
birthday,
as one of those backwards presents like the husband buying a bowling ball for his wife ;p I also got her a 500gig external harddrive and put that IN the picnic basket, wich caught her by suprise and was rather fun
;p
So for this picnic I planned to have
fruit sushi
And Michaela had the great idea of having
sparkling grape juice
All very cute, all very
romantic.
Who knew it would all go so horribly wrong! X_X;;
So, those directions I mentioned earlier... well.... they're decietful, We took them, we got to nm14 easy, we kept waiting for it to turn into nm536, because... y'know... "continue on to nm536" makes it sound like you shouldn't turn...
So we keep going.... and going..... and going...... and going... in a very very very straight line. (check it out on google earth sometime... New Mexico has quite a few very long, very straight roads) We finally come to a fork.... -_-;; an UNLABLED fork... oy vey... so we turn left and hope ^^; we drive down this new road for about 12 miles and find this town called Madrid, I keep thinking that name is familiar... about 1mile out of madrid I finally figure it out, Madrid was listed on the very end of our directions as an optional place we could visit on our way back from the mountain!! X_X; gah! So we stop and turn around, go back into madrid and ask for directions. Incidentally for those who are curious madrid was listed as an optional thing because it's a former ghost town turned artist hangout/tourist trap.
Anyway, the directions he gives are to go back 12 miles and turn, so we go back 12 miles exactly, wich is the unlabled fork again, so we turn the other way and drive.... and drive... and drive... and see a sign that says 344 and wonder... and drive... and notice we're going AWAY from anything that looks like a mountain, and that we're in wide open plains with ranches and dead snakes on the road....
-_- SO we give up in frustration and say we'll just go back to albuquerque and picnic in a regular park. it's already been 3+hours and we've not eaten breakfast. it's nearly noon. So we drive back... about an hour back, on the way back we notice this sign we had noticed before it says sandia crest, the first time we didn't take it because our directions said "continue" meaning no turns, and this path is 4 lanes of road that you'd need to turn through to get to from nm14 North, anyway we figure anything is better than going all the way back to abq, so we take this turn... turns out about 30ft up this road is a sign saying NM536 *eyetwitch* People need to learn to freaking lable! oy...
ANYWAY we're finally on the
mountain
so we hunt for a good spot, some idiot motorcyclist tries to go 50mph, tailgating up the mountain, finally he gets frustrated and peels out beside us... We were suprised to not have found his smoldering wreckage that day. -_- idiot.... We pass a few "standard" picnic spots... the kind with tables and ehness.... dun want those...
Then a car driver with the same inteligence level of the biker decides to tailgate up the mountain aswell, Michaela gets agravated over it because the roads are curvy and not very safe, the speed limit is only 25, I suggest she just pull off to the side like I saw another car do and just let the guy pass, let him wreck if he wants to so badly.
Finally we find a nice little woodsy spot, though Michaela is still
sad
because of all the tailgaters up the mountain. But she
cheered up
when I told her to imagine slashing their tires ;p
I serve up some
sushi
and
sparkling red grapejuice
We talk, smile, laugh, ect,
When Michaela asks me to refill her wine substitute, I ask her to stand up first. After she stands, I get down on one knee.....
Pull the ringbox out of my sock
Where I had been
hiding it
=^_^= and asked her to marry me.
She said yes ofcourse
The ring
Is my mothers, the diamond was my grandmothers and got passed down. One problem though, is that the band doesn't fit, and... honestly doesn't suit Michaela or me, it's too old fashioned, and technically isn't even an engagement band(my mother had had the diamond re-mounted when she was 16)
So we hunted around online and in jewelry shops, and found one
we loved.
it looks much better in person than it did on their website
wich we still liked, but were iffy, hence going in person to the store.
;p also I had a
suprise
on monday when I went back to work I found out my coworkers had commandeered the whiteboard in the breakroom to draw me a congratulations ;p
Also our store had had one of the biggest saturdays ever, and I was told I need to get engaged more often <,<;
So anyway that was my weekend, how was yours?
