School has been cancelled for the last 2 classes due to the snow. One half of me is happy because the final in med-surge was to be on Friday and pharmacology on Monday and the teacher gave us just one day to learn the endocrine system and diabetes head to toe on top of studying for the final which also included the blood and lymphatic system, cardiology and the respiratory systems. Our former teachers used to give us study guides at least 2 weeks in advance for any major exam and definitely for the finals. This woman hands them to us the day before and expects us to remember everything going all the way back to September in addition to a ton of info just given the prior day. To say that the class is frustrated is the understatement of the year. Some how she just can't wrap her mind around the fact that all of us are working women with families and we need to have plenty of time to review and study. We can't just drop everything the night before and know all of the material. I feel bad for the women in the class who are working full time. I don't know how they're doing it. I got my last test back and had to question her about several of the test questions. One question went back to her not giving us all of the info we need to know. She's only giving us part of the info and expecting us to figure out the rest...which is difficult to do when you need all of the info in order to figure out the question. On the other question that I asked about, she gave me the same answer that I put down on the test, so I asked her why I got it wrong and showed her in the book where my answer was right. She said she'd have to look into it but I'm doubting that will happen. Her answer to me was that I need to accept the fact that I will be getting questions wrong on the boards. Well, I can accept that. What I can't accept is not being taught properly so that I can answer the board questions and pass the first time around. I had planned getting a jump start on next semester by studying the next chapters and making my own notes. Now I can't even do that since she won't give us the syllabus for next semester and I have to spend this time studying for the finals that should have been taken this past week.
I'm working tonight and tomorrow night in addition to Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week. They wanted me to come in last night but I declined. We need the money but 3 days in a row is simply exhausting and my back is killing me already. I got my schedule for next month and my hours have been cut back. Strange since they're firing people left and right. The woman who makes out the schedule isn't the brightest bulb in the box and everyone is always complaining about her inability to get their schedules right.
Santa came to our house on Yule with presents for the kids. I forgot to bring the camera down so that I could post the photo of them in front of the tree. The fire department comes around the neighborhood every year with Santa on the truck and if you make arrangements ahead of time, he'll stop by your house. We leave gifts in a bag outside and he brings them into the kids. It's something the kids look forward to every year. I got them each the Claw game since they love the ones in the store so much. I rarely let them play the games, their father is usually the one who digs out the change so they can play. We got a bag of wrapped candy to put in each one and they've had a ball playing with the things.
We've spent the past week making cookies. I'll definitely need to go on a diet after the holidays. We're having turkey for Christmas dinner. One of the women I work with is a vegetarian and someone had given her family 2 turkeys. She kept the small one for the family members who aren't vegetarians and she gave the 20 pounder to me because I drive her home from work everytime we work together. Chris is the only one big on ham and I can't afford a standing rib roast. Good thing we love turkey.
I just finished mopping the floors. Since Daisy has been coming in the house everyday due to the cold, the kitchen floor is a constant mess. Fred is only allowed in occasionally because he has to be supervised. He's so out of control that I don't know how I'll ever train him. 4 years of Dougie doing nothing with the dog shows. He's a spastic mess. He constantly gets into any garbage can he can find, even the ones with covers on them. We have no safe place to keep the weekly garbage and he's constantly getting into it and dragging it all over the yard. Daniel is the one who has to clean up after him and he's ready to ship him back to Dougie. It is funny though. Fred thinks it's all fun and games and can't get it through his thick skull that he's a bad dog for getting into the garbage. Just as Daniel is about to pick up a piece of trash, Fred will race up behind him, knock Dan to the ground and run off with the piece of trash. Poor Dan is out there yelling at Fred and Fred just stands there wagging his tail. Fred waits for Dan to approach him to get the trash back and just as Dan is about to grab it, Fred runs off in another direction. This is very frustrating to Dan but it seems to be the highlight of Fred's day. Fred is loving the snow and I do enjoy watching him leap and jump in the snow in the backyard. BTW, that steam mop I got works wonders and I really love the thing. They need to make an alternate head to snap on to it so that you can get in tighter spaces (like around the toilet), but it really works well.
We have to go out shopping tomorrow to pick up the last minute things we didn't have the money for last week. I also need to do a little bit of grocery shopping for the dinner on Thursday. I need to pick Chris up one last gift. I've got him the books he's asked for as well as the CD. The kids got him a nice football coffee cup for the car and an ornament with his favorite football team. I'm at a loss as to what else to get for him. We did see a nice level on TV the other night and he mentioned that he'd like to get that. Perhaps I'll stop by Lowes or Home Depot and see if they have one.
I did not celebrate Yule this year. I haven't been feeling all that well and ended up falling asleep. I think that I may have the beginnings of diabetes. This would explain my extreme fatigue, extreme thirst and extreme hunger. I'm hoping that correction in diet and exercise will remedy the problem but should probably go to the doctor to be checked out. I have to wait until after the first of the year so that I can get a full physical.
Chris and I are going out with friends on New Years. We normally don't go out so this is a treat. Fun Junction has a special where you can drop off the kids for the night and they get all the pizza, soda, games and lazer tag they can handle. We're giving that to them as one of their gifts. We haven't done anything like that since we belonged to the Y and they would have parents nights out ever now and again.
Well, the family wants dinner, so I'd better head upstairs.
