So. Telemarketers. Biggest nuisance on the planet. Well, probably the biggest nuisance. If you guys can all come up with something bigger than a telemarketer, I'll be amused. However, today we get a call from one, and, well, this one goes above and beyond.
Earlier this afternoon, Dad was taking a nap on the couch downstairs. I was attempting to clean the current disaster area that is my room when the phone rang. Now, I didn't know that Dad was sleeping at the time, so I just let the phone ring. When it kept ringing, however, I went to the phone and picked it up and just STARED at it for a few minutes.
We actually got something on the caller ID (more than I can say for most telemarketers), and, figuring it was just someone for the parents, I picked it up. The rather nice-sounding woman on the other end of the phone asked for my mother, but I told her she was unavailable and asked if I could take a message. The woman said no and she would try back later. And hung up.
Now, it was only then that I realized "Oh, wait. That was a goddamn telemarketer, wasn't it?" But I let Mom know someone had called asking for her once she got home and we took another look at the Caller ID. We were curious, so I went and looked up the number.
Turned out that it belongs to TWO separate people in Florida. O_O Apparently, according to one website, the number belongs to a rather persistant group of telemarketers. Someone had to deal with them for a week straight.
O_O
Yeah.
Then, later tonight, I was about ready to head out to Panera for some dinner when the phone rang once again. This time? Number Unknown. Typically, that just means a fax or something, so I picked it up anyway. This time, a man, asking for my mother. -_- Should have told him to fuck off. What came out of my mouth was "She's not available. Can I take a message?" All I could make out of his response was, "....callbacklater." And CLICK.
Next time these bastards call and I get hold of the phone, I'm debating blaring JPop in their ear.
For the record, the number in question is 239-275-5218. Just so you know to ignore it. From what I've read, people have even gotten it on their cell phones, too. As far as we know, they use a random number generator to generate phone numbers, call them, and see if they work. So. >>;; Yeah. Just a warning for you all.
