enjoy, comments are loved ^.^
Changmin wished his curiosity hadn’t gotten the best of him. He scrolled through forum after forum of DBSK fan works and sighed at each one. By now he'd nailed down the three most popular pairings between the five singers. YunJae, YooSu and MinFood. He scowled and shut his laptop with a little more force then he’d intended. Why was it that they made him the cold hearted one, wasn’t Jaejoong supposed to have that image? Why did they have to pair him with food? Sure, the boy did love to eat, though that was probably the understatement of the century considering he ate enough for about 5 grown men. Still, he wasn’t that clueless, he could get a girlfriend if he wanted to.
If only that had been true. Well, it was sort of, he could get a girlfriend if he tried, he just didn’t want one, he already had someone he liked. Thing was, Changmin agreed with the general populace, Yunho was perfect for Jaejoong in a way Changmin would never be. He sighed and fell back onto his bed staring at the ceiling. The ceiling proved itself the worst distraction of life though which lead to Changmin having to cover his eyes with a arm. He fought the urge to whack himself over the head with something just to get his brain to shut up with its useless blabber about Soulmates and perfect couples.
Just then the brunet felt something stab him in the side and he jumped up on his bed. He looked around frantically and pinpointed the source of his annoyance. Jaejoong had entered the bedroom the five men shared and was sitting at his bed watching the younger with an amused glint in his eyes.
“What was that for?” exclaimed Changmin as he slapped his elder’s arm (their beds really had way too little space between them).
“I thought I told you to get some sleep, you look like you’re ready to join the undead,” he said an annoyed tone while hitting him back.
“I can’t sleep, so what?”
“You know it would probably help if you changed out of your street cloths,” sarcasm lined that statement.”
“Oh shut it hyung,” replied the boy. Tired of the game he feel back onto his sheets and rolled to one side so that his back faced Jaejoong. He heard the man sigh and he could practically see his pout painted on the back of his eyelids. Then there was a hand on his back rubbing circles into the sore muscle there. Changmin let out a breath he hadn’t even realised he was holding and relaxed into the touch, letting Jaejoong do his motherly magic. Somewhere deep inside though he knew that that was all he should be to the man, a younger friend and nothing more no matter how much it may hurt. After all, Jaejoong was deserved more love then the brunet could ever give him.
Changmin fell asleep about five minutes later curled up in Jaejoong’s lap, and he missed the gentle smile playing over his perfect face.
About a month passed since that day and Jaejoong finally got up the courage to say something he should have a long time ago to Changmin, but as usual he was in no way quite about it. He kicked the other three members out of the apartment for the night, telling them to go visit family or friends or something, then spent the night cooking. Changmin had an extended schedule for the day so he wouldn’t be due in until about 10 which gave the raven haired man plenty of time.
By the time the door had opened Jaejoong had the table set with what most would describe as a feast for his food loving friend. Dish after dish all the boys favourites, and in the middle was his favourite, extra spicy soup, and written in cream on top was “I <3 Changmin” in flowing cursive. He wiped his hands and went to greet the brunet. He saw the other kicking off his shows, slumped and evidently tired from his photo shoot. The raven haired man smiled a smile that would melt any sane woman’s heart (and some of the insane ones too) and called, “Hey there Minnie, how was the photo shoot?”
“Tiring as usual. Where are the others?”
“Out. Are you hungry? Dinner’s ready.”
There was a tired grunt, and a bit of confusion on the younger’s face as Jaejoong steered him from behind into the dining. They walked in and the man watched his breath catch and eyes widen in pure surprise. The raven head wrapped his arms around Changmin’s waist and quietly whispered into his ear “Will you go out with me Changmin?” trying to ignore how still the other had gone. That ignorance didn’t last very long though.
Changmin turned and lightly pushed away the other, arms falling away from his waist to rest by Jaejoong’s side.
“I don’t like men hyung,” was the stiff and strained answer Jaejoong got before Changmin walked past him, out of the dining area and back to the door. The boy slipped his shoes back on and walked out of the apartment. Jaejoong walked over to the couch and collapsed on the soft surface in tears.
Ring… Ring… Ri-
“Hello?”
“Hi hyung?”
“Changmin? What are you doing? I thought you were supposed to be with Jaejoong? Wait don’t te-”
“Can I come over hyung? I’m cold.”
A sigh. “Sure thing Min, where are you?”
“I’m just outside our building.”
“I’ll be there in a couple minutes.”
“Thanks hyung.”
A cold autumn wind whistled through the car as Changmin got in. His face was a blank and his movements were stiff, to the passerby he would have looked cold but to Yoochun he looked just downright depressed. There was no confidence in his step, no mischievous glint in his eyes, nothing that spoke of the reserved yet snarky boy that was Changmin. This worried Yoochun, over the years the five of them had seen pretty much every emotion under the sun on the other’s faces but this was worse than anything that the boy had ever shown before. It was like someone had drained his soul and left the body to stand, en empty shell of what it had once been.
“So, what happened?” asked Yoochun gently as he pulled the car away from the apartment building heading to his family home.
“He asked me out.”
“I guessed that much.”
“I told him I didn’t like men.”
“And why did you tell him that?”
“Because it’s true.”
“Don’t lie to me Changmin, and don’t lie to yourself either.”
There was silence, a suffocating sort of emptiness that engulfed the car and threatened to rip it apart. It lasted for the rest of the ride as neither of the men inside felt like saying anything more. They got to the house and were greeted by one over excited family. Changmin put his stage face on and smiled at them through greetings and dinner. However, when the Parks retired for a good night’s sleep Changmin stayed behind raiding their ice cream supply crying.
“Why are you doing this? You love him so what’s the problem with going out with him?”
The boy just shook his head.
“Is it your parents are, they against gay men or something?”
A chocked no was heard.
“Is it the media then, you’re afraid you’ll get in trouble if they find out?”
Another head shake.
“Is it us? You think that we’ll judge you or something?”
Another head shake.
“Then what is it?!”
Yoochun never did find out why it was that Changmin turned Jaejoong down but he was pretty sure it was something stupid. Let’s face it, no person in their right mind would turn down a beauty like Jaejoong, never mind when the said person already liked him. Now, usually he would let people figure these things out for themselves, the experience burned itself into your consciousness better that way, but in this case he was very, very, very tempted to break this habit and get the two together already for a number of adept reasons.
For one, Changmin hadn’t come to sleep at the DBSK dorm since the incident. He had turned into a rock, almost literally, he wouldn’t speak unless asked directly, wouldn’t smile or laugh, wouldn’t even eat which was starting to creep the others out. Jaejoong on the other hand seemed okay, but dig a little deeper and you saw how he stopped cooking, spent all his time in bed with his iPod yet got no sleep what so ever. The two men hadn’t spoken off camera with each other either, in front of the fans they looked perfectly fine, but off the set they pretty much ignored each other. The one-touch love was gone too, both off and on set.
If Yoochun had to be truthful it was getting a kind of scary but no one had any idea how to fix the situation. Yunho was attempting to talk to either of the two and figure out where things went wrong, as Yoochun had long given up by now. He was slowly running out of ideas though and was more and more often given the cold shoulder. Junsu on the other hand was having a nervous breakdown because he feared this would break apart the group and their manager was ready to put one of Jaejoong’s pans through Changmin’s head (he practically blackmailed the other three into telling him what happened upon seeing Changmin and Jaejoong the morning after the incident). To say the least, DBSK was in chaos.
So passed the next couple of weeks until Yunho finally snapped and came up with his riskiest plan yet.
They were recording a song for one of their Japanese singles. They sang their hearts out into the studio microphones as usual, voices blending together, unrecognisable between the rest. The recording last hours and was scheduled right at the end of their day perfect for Yunho’s master plan. Junsu had already completed part one of the plan, take Changmin’s iPod without him noticing, setting everything in motion. While Yoochun had taken his position just a couple moments ago excusing himself to grab a drink from the vending machine as they headed for the change rooms.
“Has anyone seen my iPod, I can’t find it?” came Changmin’s voice asking no one in particular.
“Uhh, I think I saw it in the studio have you checked there,” answered the leader.
“No, I’ll go and see,” he said to Yunho and walked out of the change room.
“Jaejoong, would you go and check that he finds it, I’m worried,” he asked, acting the part of a worried elder which really wasn’t acting.
Jaejoong looked at the man as if he’d grown a second head but in the end agreed and headed after the brunet. He ran to catch up and spotted him just as he was making his way around the corner toward the studio. He called out after the boy watched him as he stiffened at the sound of the all too familiar voice.
“Yunho asked me to come with you,” Jaejoong explained as he caught his breath beside the other.
Changmin nodded and kept walking without even looking at his elder. The raven head followed a couple steps behind trying to ignore how cold the other was being although it wasn’t easy. They walked in one after the other and the brunet started looking for the little device that sang to him in place of the real Jaejoong. A moment later a loud bang echoed through the room and both heads snapped to the door which had shut itself. Changmin walked over and pulled at the heavy metal door but it wouldn’t budge.
“Shit,” muttered the younger giving up.
“Is it locked?”
“Yes.”
Jaejoong sighed and reached into the pocket of his jeans and pulled out his phone. He called the manager and asked him if they could come and unlock the door but was informed that the doors in this building automatically locked at a certain hour making it was impossible to unlock a single door and it just so happened that they had gone in 5 minutes after the set time. The manager promised to come and get the two the next morning and then hung up. Changmin slumped against the door upon hear the news.
If Jaejoong had to perfectly truthful, this was the most awkward hour he had ever spent with anyone this side of the north pole. The two men had positioned themselves at opposite ends of the studio and hadn’t spoken a word since the phone call. The quite was really starting to suffocate the raven haired man and he finally snapped.
“Changmin say something.” The words came out more like a plea rather than the command Jaejoong had been going for.
“What do you want me to say hyung?” came the exasperated reply.
“Anything! How’s your family, have you been catching up with your sisters this week?”
“Uhh, you could say that I guess.”
“What do you think of the new song?”
“It’s okay I guess, it’s not like we get a say in what we sing anyway so whatever.”
“How’s the high range, you got a lot of it this time around?”
That seemed to finally strike some sort of chord with the younger and he opened up a bit. “Uhh, it’s so annoying, it’s not natural either. I don’t get what they like about it, it sound so weird and awkward to me.”
“I know what you mean, I don’t really get it either, a guy’s voice shouldn’t go that high,” he said as he walked over to sit beside the younger on the tiny meant for managers and the such.
“And to think I thought you would know, being the oldest and all,” there was a quite smirk playing across Changmin’s face when he said that and Jaejoong was practically jumping off the walls when he saw it.
“And I thought you were the smart one with the degree in music,” he teased hoping he wasn’t pushing the other too much.
“I do have a degree in music hyung, but that’s got nothing to do with singing.”
“It’s got everything to do with singing you weirdo.”
“I am not a weirdo,” he said smacking his elder’s shoulder and by accident falling into an old routine.
Jaejoong laughed and leaned on the brunet when he hit him back without realising what he’d done. He only noticed the all too familiar contact when the other stiffened against his touch. The raven head sighed but remained where he was looking up at the face that was turned away from his.
“What’s wrong with me Changmin?” he asked quietly.
The other’s head snapped back around. “What?” he croaked out.
“What’s wrong with me? Why won’t you go out with me?”
He got up and turned away from Jaejoong. “There’s nothing wrong with you. I already told you I don’t like men.”
“Stop lying to me Changmin, I can tell, I’m not stupid.”
“Yea? Well then, let me break it to you hyung, you are stupid ‘cause I’m not lying.”
This was when Jaejoong snapped. People just did not call him a stupid like that without suffering some kind of consequence. He got up, pulled Changmin’s shoulder forcing him to turn and crushed his lips to the boy’s in a demanding kiss. The other stiffened but his resolve soon crumbled and he kissed the raven head back. He could feel Jaejoong smiling against his lips and somewhere in the back of his mind he registered he’d be in trouble soon but for the moment he didn’t care. All he cared about was the feel of the soft, plump lips against his and how Jaejoong’s fingers tangled themselves in his hair deepening the kiss. A quite warmth spread through his body, their bodies, he could feel Jaejoong radiate it. They stayed like that for what felt like eternity before Changmin finally broke the contact gasping for air.
“You were saying?” breathed Jaejoong between loud huffs.
“I was saying you were an idiot -”
“Do you seriously need more proof that you are not straight?!”
“- because you could do so much better.”
Silence settled between the two men and Jaejoong finally understood why Changmin had turned him down. The boy walked a couple steps away from the shocked man, putting some distance between them.
“You are not seriously telling me that you believe all the YunJae crap our fans come up with right?” he asked quietly.
“Well, they were spot on about YooSu weren’t they? I think they were right about YunJae too you two just haven’t quite seen it yet.”
“Shim Changmin, if you say that again I’m going to slap you into the next century!” There was rage boiling in his voice as he uttered those words.
“Oh come on, you too look perfect together, stop denying it.”
“So then who’s left for you Changmin, huh? Food? Don’t lower yourself to that!”
Jaejoong’s words were met with silence and when he realised he wasn’t going to get any reply at all he stepped up behind the younger wrapping his around him. “I love you and you only. I don’t care what the world sais, I don’t care if we don’t look perfect, or if we’re weird, if we fight, if you eat enough to empty a fridge in one night. You don’t have to be perfect, you can just be yourself ‘cause I love you when you’re yourself, understand?” he whispered into the taller boy’s ear. He felt a shiver run through the other and a gentle smile played across his lips.
“Why do insist on being so cheesy?” he said voice airy and unsure.
“Stop avoiding the question, do you understand or do you still need proof?” he said a bit more forcefully.
“N-no thank you, I understand sir.”
A quite laughter rang through the room as Changmin stiffened and scowled.
“Good, so we’re together?”
“Yes, hyung we’re together.”
“Stop calling me that.”
“What?”
“Hyung, if we’re together you can use my name.”
“Yes Jaejoong, we’re together. Happy now?”
“Yep, perfect.” Changmin was rewarded with a trail of light kisses going down from his ear to the collar of his shirt. Jaejoong pulled the boy back to the couch and sat him down then curled up in his lap as he’d waited months to do. He snuggled himself in burring his face in the side of the boy’s neck, one hand went around the other’s waist while the other soothed out unruly brown hair. He hummed contently as the other relaxed a couple moments later and wrapped his long arms around the older man.
They feel asleep like that and were still curled up the next morning when their three band mates and manager came to see what had happened of their plan. To put it lightly, they never did live that down.
