So yesterday I set out on the much delayed visit to m'friend across the "border" in Yorkshire.I have been trying to get to see her ever since she moved, but every time life intervened in some way or another.
Anyway, this time there were no put offs, so I set out in glorious sunshine for her new house. I roughly knew where it was since I have been through Otley before , but never been to Otley,so I decided that this time I would use the Satnav that FK has lent me. Apart from anything else I need the practice at using one as I am considering getting one for myself later this year.
Imagine my surprise, when instead of directing me along the obvious main roads, it took me along winding tiny country lanes that twisted and turned so much that I had no idea where I was until I arrived. It was an amazingly beautiful journey, but also quite difficult driving conditions - we didnt quite end up in farmyards, but they were that sort of backwoods tracks!!! So hooray for Tomothy Tom-Tom for providing me with such an interesting and scenic route.
Otley itself is a gorgeous little town and M'friend took me on a stroll around quite a bit of it. It is full of little jitties and hidden courtyards and it was just like being on holiday ambling around in the sunshine. We didnt manage to do all of it by any means as we stopped to buy some plants for her garden and then took them back - so I know that next time I go there is still the Courthouse to do and the local parks and the Chevin (a woodland uphill area just above the town with a maze of walks etc).
On the way back to her house i got to have a look rounD the library (we had popped in to get a town map for me)which is modern, light and airy and beautifully laid out.
In the afternoon we sat out in her small garden in the sunshine catching up with everything from the last couple of months and then around 6pm I left to come home. This time I left "Timothy" in bed and came back the obvious way - which was stuffed with traffic and long queues for a lot of the way. (Memo to self : do not travel through tourist areas on sunny summer Friday evenings as everyone else is doing the same thing!!)
So now I have a long weekend to get myself sorted out ready for the sojourn at FK's house and I also need to do a load of Spanish preparation as i have an oral test on Monday afternoon. It wont be too bad as long as I do some advanced thinking about it as it is on "preferences" and "directions" so not too difficult.(I hope!)
