Well, after all these "what I did today posts", I feel that I'm overdue for a political rant. And what better time than when I have so much to be happy about!

First, Tom Delay's indictment. When the house majority leader (who's been involved in shady deals for a long time) finally gets caught on charges of criminal conspiracy of all things is joyful for me. I am full of joy :D He has to step down, even! He says he'll be back, but after the perp walk, I doubt he'll have the same respect and power.

Now, there's new news in the Valerie Plame Leak case. Patrick Fitzgerald, the person investigating the leak, has just found out that the conspiracy to leak Plame's name to the news may have started with Dick Cheney. *squee* Now, technically this isn't a breach of security because both Cheney and the man he was talking to had the proper securtiy clearance, but it definitely opens some doors for some more indictments to come.

So, why should we care about the Plame leak? Well, since you asked, I'll tell you :D First, it's a severe breach of national security. Valerie Plame was in a deep cover situation when her name was leaked to the press singling her out as an undercover CIA operative. The reason for this leak, as far as the investigator has been able to see (and me as well), was because Plame's husband Joseph Wilson published a paper refuting the original claim for going to war in Iraq about Saddam having Yellowcake Uranium. The leak happened in an attempt to discredit Wilson before everyone caught on to the meaning of the article. This is treason, plain and simple. No beating around the bush or playing with words...it's just treasonous to leak the name of a deep undercover agent thus endangering the agent as well as those she works to protect.

If you haven't seen this on the news, it's a real pity that the only place this is on is in my podcasted Air America radio shows. For those who'd like to keep up to date, I recommend downloading iTunes (for free!) and subscribing to either Morning Sedition for the lighter side of things and/or American Dissent Radio for the educated, analytical, mostly bipartisan view. Ring of Fire is good, too since it covers a lot of different areas like environment, legal issues, etc. Yeah, I'm a podcast whore :D

Here's also a quote from my wonderful cousin's blog (he's so cool!):

Hear me: an unconscious people, an indoctrinated people, a people fed only partisan information and opinion that confirm their own bias,a people made morbidly obese in mind and spirit by the junk food of propaganda is less inclined to put up a fight, ask questions and be skeptical. And just as a democracy can die of too many lies, that kind of orthodoxy can kill us, too.
