Classes

So, I got new classes this semester! I'm so predictable, aren't I? So far, I'm extremely pleased with all but one, and I'm only mildly pleased with that one.

MWF my only class is Medieval Philosophy at 1:30 (basically the study of how ancient philosophies of Plato and Aristotle and that gang collided with the religious provisos of the Medieval age). It's a really interesting class so far and the teacher is engaging. He really knows how to effectively lead a discussion and he actually got me involved without actually calling on me and putting me on the spot (which is not a good way to get a logical, intelligent answer out of me, let me tell you).

We were discussing the theories of some guy with a long P name (don't feel like looking it up) who felt that all being was one and universal and eternal and could never NOT be and nothing could come from nothing. So we were all basically discussing how that could have possibly accounted for what we see in everyday life, which the P-guy's philosophies basically discarded as completely false. The teacher is really good at playing the role of the philosopher himself defending his theories even if he has some asides about how silly the theories could be.

Tues and Thurs are busy days for me, I have a 9:00am class, Judicial Process and Politics first. That is the class that I'm the least pleased about. The teacher is one I've had before and he's boring and pointless and not very good at engaging his students, but he's easy so I don't mind that I have to take him again. He puts all his slides online and gives study guides for tests and everything and there's NO PAPERS! Hooray! The only bad thing is that there's a presentation that we have to do in groups. I don't mind presentations, but this one is just to read pick a chapter and "lead a discussion" on it. It just feels like he's being lazy and doesn't want to have to teach a couple chapters :P

Then I have a class called "Sustainability" about Environmental Sustainability and Politics with one of my favorite teachers, Dr. Jacques (that's pronounced Hack-us. Weird I know.). He's a really interesting guy who knows a lot about his subject and gets good discussions going. I've had him for two other classes before this one and I've liked them thoroughly. He's tough, though. He assigns lots of readings for every class, there's pop quizzes, pop group work, a book review, a ten page research paper at the end of the class (with a min of 15 sources), and a midterm that's essay questions. He also asks us to read the paper every day. It's a mind-expanding class, though and VERY interesting, especially for me.

Finally, I have an Honors Seminar class about Diplomacy. My teacher is AMAZING. She's been a career diplomat for 42 years in a whole bunch of different countries and she's an engaging, amazing speaker. She's lectured in some of my other internationally-geared classes and I love her to pieces. It's going to be a pretty easy class, too, with only two exams an a mock Diplomatic session at the end. I'm looking forward to that. Hopefully I get put on an issue that I know a lot about/feel strongly about.

My last "class" is Honors in the Major Directed Readings II, which is basically me doing independent research for my thesis, which should be completed by the end of my senior year. My "committee chair" is Dr. Jacques and like I said, he's super cool. I've decided to do my thesis on Native American law, which is incredibly interesting so far.

Other than that, I have a tutoring schedule that's going to kick my ass this semester. Mondays I work 7:45AM-9:45AM and Fridays I work 7:45AM-12:00PM!! Yeah, good thing those are only about 2 feet away from my apartment so I don't have to worry about getting up REALLY early to get over there. I also work Mondays and Wednesdays 6:00PM - 9:00PM. All told, I'll be working 12 hours during the week, then at least 12 hours on weekends at Disney so I'm getting awful close to the maximum part-time hours! Money which can be used to feed my WoW addiction! Hopefully, I'll get a raise from tutoring since I've hit the three semester mark with them.

Anyway, class is going to start soon so I'll get off.

PS. MISSY! I forgot to ask you where you are getting the Psych episodes! I must find them!! And look Psych icon! I have tons more on Photobucket if you want to check them out.
