Some sense of normalcy

I'm slowly getting into some sort of schedule here.  I think my jetlag is finally gone; I still can't stay up as late as I was in Japan, but it's close enough to normal-people time that it's fine.  I can sleep till 7:30/8 now, which was my normal school-wake up time, so if I can stick to that I'll be happy.

Since my dad is "retired" now (he went out on disability because of his eye), I've had to get used to him being home all the time.  We've been running errands and such since I can drive him around, and it's been going pretty well.  The CRV is now my car till I go to Alberta this fall (though my mom still snatches it :b drive your own car!).  I've started going to the gym everyday since I'm not walking around everywhere like I was in Yokohama, and I'd like to keep off all the weight I lost.

IUC is officially going to finish as a "distance-learning" program.  Can't say I'm thrilled about it.  The senseis will be teaching via the internet from Japan, and the part that sucks is the timing.  We're going to have a once-a-week class at 10am JST, ie 9pm EST.  I'm also going to have twice-a-week tutorials that will be anywhere from 10am to 3:30pm JST, ie 9pm to 2:30am EST. My brain usually shuts down at 9pm, so I am not looking forward to late classes at all.  I'm going to insist that I get the earliest tutorial sessions I can so I don't have to be doing class at 11 at night.  It's definitely easier for the West-coast crowd. Hopefully the schedule will be up soon so I can go apply for a job without worrying about it cutting into class time.

I've slowly been catching up with people since I got back.  My one set of grandparents visited for lunch on Monday, and the other set came last night for dinner.  I had dinner with Alicia and Diane on Friday, so it was nice to catch up.  Heading downtown to have dinner and see "Taming of the Shrew" with next_muffin tomorrow night, and hopefully heading up to Bryn Mawr sometime during the week.

This is definitely not how I expected Spring Break to be, but it could be worse.  At least the ground isn't shaking here.
