Thoughts on a family of dead deer.

On a walk I was taking with Jeff, I found a family of deer dead in an entrance way to the Woods Charter School Soccer field. At least two does and two fawns. Another fawn was across the road. All had been decomposed to the point of mostly scattered bones, fur and rib cages. A disturbing sight indeed. Now my curiosity and inner nature geek questions, what happened? Could an entire herd of deer have been hit by a car? If someone shot them why would they leave them by a school soccer field? Since there was recent construction on the road, landscapers had put down grass seed with tack so the seed wouldn't wash away during the recent rains. Could the tack have possibly poisoned them?

All these questions run through my head. Those poor deer. The fawns looked like they were only days or less than a few weeks old. Population control during hunting season I understand. If this was a purposeful attempt to rid population it sure looked illegal. I don't think someone killed them for food just because of how the scene looked. I grew up in the country and saw what illegal dumping looked like. I just hope this isn't going to be a trend. I rather like the deer around.
