Happy talk like a pirate day!

To celebrate, I did a lot of browsing around on the interwebs to try to find pictures of pirate women that are not horribly sexualized. Lets face it. If woman pirates dared sailed the seas in tight corsets and hiked up skirts their chances of survival amongst a ship full of sexed starved men would be very limited. Most, in fact, disguised themselves as men. But enough of the history lessen, these are some amusing sites I found while on my search.

Booty: Girl Pirates on the High Seas by Sara Lorimer with art by Susan Synarski
I love the quirky depiction of real woman pirates in Susan's art.

This is a tour women can take in Ireland based on the life of Grace O'Malley. It has some fabulous links toward the bottom of the page about the Most famous of pirate queens!

Even Mary Reed had problems with gender identity.

Feminist Pirates unite! This is Mrs. Blubridge's Grog Shoppe blog entry. I am referring to the quote underneath the picture. It's empowering. Yarr.

Woman Pirate Lego! Hell yea! ....but what is she holding?

Good form!

My favorite part of this pic is that she is wearing gloves. Yes, there is a bit of boobbage going on however the over all look is pretty androgynous and she looks like she has kicked some ass in the past.
