Me and SomethingAwful: A Love Story involving piranha, limericks about my breakup, etc.

Ever since I discovered SomethingAwful, I've had a strange affection for it (who couldn't love a site whose tagline is, "The Internet makes you stupid"?). Housemate Brett recently characterized me as loving SA "to a fault". I can't actually remember what I ( Read more... )

As someone rounding up to 8 years spent (read: wasted) on SomethingAwful, I can honestly say you're not really missing anything. The SA forums were something to behold back in the day (2000-2001), but now, it's a few generations diluted and altogether boring.

I'm accepting of the fact that I am something of a codger when it comes to SA. Some really funny stuff is still going on there, I will definitely concede. It's really a fascinating place from a psychological standpoint.

How's Chicago treating you? I'm visiting there this summer, in August for my cousin's wedding. Anything I shouldn't miss out on?

Chicago's treating me well. If you'll be here in August and your visit doesn't overlap with one of my vacations, then we should totally hang out.

I also appreciate SA psychologically. I always have the feeling that I'm surreptitiously hanging out in a men's locker room, but with more bizarreness.

hanging out in a men's locker room

Only the men hanging out in there don't typically partake in sports or any kind of exercise. They just talk dirty. Having passed through many men's locker rooms, I can tell you nobody really talks unless you're all on a football team or something.

The wedding is August 9th, so I'll be in town that weekend, probably Thursday through Sunday.
