I sometimes think that I've quoted the same 10 songs over and over in... 4?... years of post titles

I think that manipulative only means using social methods to get what you want. That means using other people. I think that it's important to remember that when you use social power to an end, you really put forth very little work. It's a lot like getting something for nothing.

My roommate will walk up to people and go, "(Person), you're pretty and you smell good. Would you (do favor) for me?" ::eyelashes:: It pretty much always works. It's a strikingly successful tactic, because it's honest in its nonsense flattery, and cute, and small. It is manipulative, but I think that it's not the bad kind of manipulation. It's the white lie of manipulation.

I mean, most women wear make-up, and there's nothing wrong with that. (on an individual level)

I think that negative manipulation is just dishonest, heavy-handed, or to a repugnant end. Implying something that is not going to happen is dishonest. Really laying it on to get someone to do something they really wouldn't want to do is heavy-handed. Getting someone to do something that you shouldn't really be manipulating them into, like all of the chores, or buying everything, etc has a repugnant end.
