The calender says it's already July, but I refuse to believe it

I have a job!  *knocks on wood*  That's right, I've joined the ranks of the gainfully employed.  Again.  I'm still not 100% decided on how I like the gig, but I think I do.  Like it, I mean.  There are certainly worse jobs out there.  The Gallery of Life, at the mall nearest me, has recently (last week) come under new ownership and put out an add on craigslist that they were looking for full and/or part timers.  I picked up an application last Tuesday, turned it in last Thursday, suffered a very casual interview (I was dressed very casually, and felt a bit bad for it, but it's not like I was expecting an interview), had a real interview on Monday and had my first day of work today.  Whew.  Seriously among the shortest hiring processes ever.  I'm not really sure what else to say without rambling (more obnoxiously than I am already), so suffice it to say that I am employed and that I think I like it that way.

My folks and I went camping this last weekend for the 4th.  We went up to their property in the Wet Mountains.  They've been trying to get quotes on cabins from contractors, but have had some trouble getting responses.  Anyway, we have a large shed (with a loft, it's actually quite comfortable) and an outhouse, so it makes for a pretty swell campsite.  We currently have a lot of Nam's TKD furniture in the shed though, so I offered to camp in a tent to save space.  It's been years since I've camped out in a tent.  It was really nice.  We had rain on the first night  and the second day.  We went canoeing (sp?) on Lake Deweese on Saturday before the weather kicked up.  After getting back to camp and after the rain stopped, but before the bugs came back, I went exploring with the dog and found some signs of bear!  We've known that it's "bear country", but we've never seen signs of them before, mostly just deer, elk, and rabbit.  I found some really nice claw marks on trees and several deposits of scat, plus enough paw marks to track down several other signs.  So that was neat.  We also made s'mores on Saturday night, so that was awesome.

I wish I could say I've been doing more, but really my life has been pretty quiet.  After a few weeks of holding down a job I can start looking around for a place of my own though.  That's pretty exciting.  In the meantime, I'm also working on a children's book cover illustration contest for a publishing company, and I'm working on planning my portfolio.  My website, if I haven't already mentioned, is here:  http://kristinhuxman.wordpress.com
I'm still working on getting content up, but there's a bunch in the first two galleries.  Let me know what you think.  :)
