30 days of drabbles challenge
day 14: 8/3/12 : Order
Fandom: Primeval
Characters/Pairings: Connor/Abby, Matt/Emily, Becker, Jess, Lester, Ocs (mention), Nick Cutter (mention), Jenny (mention)
About: the prompt sorta exploded on me and so I made a bunch of little drabblets on the different uses of the word order and the primeval team.

order - command
> Connor revelled in finally being determined competent enough to actually give orders in the field. But with the joy came a bitter taste. He knew that it was only because of Cutter’s death that there was a reason for him to take charge in any way.
---
order - organization of things - putting things in order: a state in which all components or elements are arranged logically, comprehensibly, or naturally; an arrangement or disposition of things in succession; sequence: alphabetical order
> Anywhere Connor dwelled for any amount of time quickly became chaotic and seemingly messy within hours. But both he and Abby knew that it was an organized chaos. There was an order to things, each paper and pile and scrap had it’s place, as haplessly messy as it appeared. Like the alphabet, one thing out of the order left everything in dissaray. When April cleaned his lab, Connor despaired, albeit silently. The carefully contrived chaotic order had been disrupted, and he could not hope to be able to find anything he’d been working on.
Abby, on seeing the cleaned space, wondered if April had known quite well what she was doing by tidying Connor’s lab.

a tall order, a very difficult or formidable task, requirement, or demand.
> He thought getting Abby to accept his apology would be a tall oorder. That he would have to beg her to forgive him - because he felt so horribly guilty and was so, so sorry, he’d been horrible and
hadn’t trusted her and- he was down on himself.
He didn’t expect Abby to cut him off in that familiar way, a finger to his lips to shut his babbling up and then she asked him to kiss her.
> Abby felt the depression, the guilt and the fear and the hopelessness in Connor’s eyes in the bunker in the future like a blow. He could not give up, she loved him. She needed him. And though she feared it was a tall order, she wouldn’t give up on him either. Even if he didn’t see how she could even look at him, she was in love with him and that was all that mattered.
“Because,” She lowered her voice to a whisper, “I love you more than anything, and when we get back I want to marry you.” Maybe it wasn’t as tall an order as she’d feared - there was a spark of hope and that warm love for her in his dark eyes. It told her that he was getting better already. It was time to go home and save the world.

call to order, to begin (a meeting)
> The meeting was called to order at 3 o’clock that afternoon. As they were still repairing the large window, the room was as cold as the winter air outside. Connor pulled his legs up onto the swivel chair, a pair of dusky grey fingerless gloves on his hands. Lester was just relieved he hadn’t gone back to his clothing style pre-cretaceous, allowing that the fingerless gloves served a purpose in this temperature.
Abby leaned against her fiance’s shoulder, Matt and Emily sat attentively in their seats, and Becker stood leaning against the doorway. Jess cleared her throat and stood, and they all looked towards her.
“Okay, now that we’re all here, it’s time to discuss plans for the future of the ARC.”
Lester smiled, listening to his team fondly as they spoke over one another and made suggestions.
Just five years ago he’d have denied the feelings of fondness, and turned to argue with Cutter or snipe at Jenny or yell at Connor. Now he was proud of the team - his team.

in order,
a. fitting; appropriate
> Lester sighed, and though he fought to keep the exasperated expression on his face, they all knew he did in fact care about them more than he would ever say.
“Fine - it appears that an apology is in order.” Connor and Abby grinned, and even Matt couldn’t fight a snile. Lester rolled his eyes.
“I’m sorry.” He said plainly, not elaborating on what he was apologizing for, wanting to get it over with as quickly as possible.

in order that, so that; to the end that. in order to, as a means to; with the purpose of.
> With the secret of the Anomalies public knowledge, they now had to contend with, of all things, fangirls as well as skeptics. In order to keep control of the situation and to avoid unnecesary inocents being in the way of creature incursions (curiosity killed the cat isn’t just an expression),
Lester had to hire some one to contend with these things. They had had a team of PR people to deal with keeping it secret, cover stories and that ilk.
The person they got was annoying and talktative and had nearly no knowledge of dinosaurs but they were also very loyal and was great with people (other than Lester, with whom the person clashed on an almost daily basis). To the end that the core team and soldiers didn’t actually have to deal with the public as well as rampaging creatures, the new staff member was helpful, even if they got on Lester’s nerves to no end. The freaky part was the guy had long blonde hair, a scottish accent, and had problems dealing with Lester.
