sorchar and I went to see Mike Carey read at Powell's the other night and immediately fell in love -- with him, with his protagonist, with his fantastic, jealousy-inducing prose.
Carey's written many, many comics, including several issues of Hellblazer, and his first series of novels was influenced by that: his protagonist is a snarky bastard of an exorcist.
Have a look at a sample they've put up and see what you think. I think there are better samples of his prose in the 30 pages or so I've heard/read, but still, when I read this part in the book I was thinking, "How can this be so fucking engrossing? He's describing a goddamn room, for fuck's sake!"
