Scrivener!

I've been using Scrivener for a few weeks now, and it's a huuuuge improvement over Word and my old system of files. There are a few features I miss, like being able to see the non-printing characters (I know, I'm weird), but it doesn't annoy me the way Word does, and has so many nifty features. For one thing, Scrivener's organization way beats mine.

I've been using mostly for my schoolwork, but that's no fun to look at. Instead, I'll show what I've done with my fics (which I have organized, though not had time to work on).

So instead of this:

(don't try to make sense of my file names)

I have this:

(... and then I promptly reeled from the amount of fic I've written. But anyway.)

It also has cool features like this outline view, where I can see at a glance how long my chapters are:

Instead of having to highlight each section in Word to get the count.

It also has a bunch of other cool features I've only just started to play with. Like, research materials are right there in the .scriv file, I don't need to open a separate program for images and PDFs or other media. But you can see all that on the Scrivener site. What I've really getting into right now is how it lets me jot down miscellaneous scenes, without losing them in random files. Such as this:

The top file is the main fic; the lower two are scenes it hasn't gotten up to yet.

Something that's been really helpful with those damn competencies is the "status" drop-down; I can scan down and immediately see which ones have been signed off and which I have yet to do.

so in case you didn't get it, I'm really, really happy with this program ^^. And I'm really, really itching to have time to use it for fic writing.
