Sometimes the mind wanders. And my wandering mind is what you (may) be suffering through here....
Attending a Catholic High School, especially as a non-Christian (at the time I considered myself a Deist, was pretty interesting. In most ways it was a very positive experience. I liked the majority of my fellow students and most of my teachers. I think that it gave me a very stable and superior educational experience. There were hardly any fights and I only remember one class where drug use was seen or permitted. We only lost one student from my class by expulsion. Now, some 30 years later, I am kinda curious about that.
The correct term is "in flagrante dilecto" or perhaps "coitus interruptus", or so the story goes, and it is all hearsay to me. One of our fellow students was caught by a teacher being, shall we say, more friendly than might have been proper with a girl from Byran Adams HS in a stairwell during a dance on campus.
Now I have to wonder at the expulsion and my lack of reaction to it at the time. Was he expelled because of the act? Was it because she was from Bryan Adams and not one of our own ladies? (Sort of a "we aren't good enough for you?" response?) Was he expelled for having sex or because he was caught or because of the hubris (or bad judgement) of having sex on campus? Was he using some sort of protection (as that would have been unacceptable at a Catholic High School)?
I didn't know the student particularly well, though I still remember his name (even though some shred of decency keeps me from mentioning here), and thought he was a nice guy. We just didn't share the same social circles. IIRC, he was on into sports and I was not. At the time the event didn't really register with me. Perhaps because I was powerless in the situation. Perhaps because the idea of sex itself was pretty nebulous to me at the time (of course I *thought* about it. I was (and am) a guy. It just wasn't realistically in the cards for *me* at that time.) It didn't even cause much of a ripple in the school that I recall.
I *think* that he ended up going to Bryan Adams which may be a good example of matching punishment with the crime....
