Conversations with my family:
Mom: Well, I've had quite the day. Picking [...cut for I don't really care]. How about you? Are you still being lazy?
Me: ...I had surgery. Thanks.
Mom: Well, there's no need to lay about like that! You're young! You should be up and working!
Me: ...Surgery.
Mom: I don't see what's the problem.

Just take care, OK?
Gut surgery is very tricky. My dad just had surgery, and they had just told him he was ready to go home from hospital... he & mom were packing to go home, and he suddenly started feeling poorly, had to lay down... mom called for physician, and to make a longer story short - he was dead in an hour and a half. We're all having a very hard time dealing with it.
So, right now I don't trust medical folk so far as I could throw one.
So I mean, really, truly - if you are not feeling better by now, check your symptoms, let them know loud and clear, and document with written communications, if you are not feeling better. be sure to involve family & friends in getting them to address any lingering issues... I think we're all feeling that if we had just pressed the nurses / doctors for more attention, more checking / tests, he should have been OK. And, given what the autopsy said, how the heck did they think he was well enough to go home?!?!?! At the same time, we're thanking the gods that mom was not in process of driving him home, or I'm sure we would have lost both of them in an accident.
I know this sounds gruesome, I'm overtired right now so not writing well - but I feel a need to pass it on. If reading this makes even one person who is having post-surgical complications take care to get 2nd opinions promptly or bug their medical people instead of just taking their word for it that 'yes, that sometimes happens after this surgery' when they try to brush you off - it just may save their life.

Again, I am so sorry, and I'll keep that in mind. It's very good advice, for anyone and everyone doing any type of medical procedure.
