Update the Third:
Well, pretty much every document file is for sure toast. Himself managed to find one file of stuff, not fic related, of household info I had been looking through and pulled that from the ether, so. Yay, something positive.
I've been thinking back and trying to remember where the ever loving fuck I picked this thing up. I think it might have been on a webcomic site but I'm not sure. I didn't go anywhere I don't usually go, and that's the part that worries me. So. Yeah. Be careful, and if anyone runs into news sites that talk about a new hack virus, send me a link, would ya? =)
As for the computer, well, sad to say it's getting reformatted as we speak. So, all is gone, toast, adios, dust in the wind. I won't be getting around to updating The Road Not Taken until sometime next week, after I settle the computer back to how I like it. Then I have to find all the files in my emails, and then, as I remembered this morning, go back and edit the first book back to the ending that I HAD changed it to, but I'm not sure if I sent it off to moonfairyhime or not. So. Yeah. Then it'll be edit time on book 2 and then going back to re-write all the words I lost on book 3.
I knew things were going too well for it to last =)
There is, however, one rather large silver lining to this mess, fic-wise. I've been taking the time, when not on my computer, to sit down and write out, in long hand, all my thoughts, problems, issues, and how I'm going to resolve them for the AU series. I'm pretty sure I've hammered down all the salient plot points I need to make until book 4. Book 5 and up are bothering me, mostly because there are such huge changes I start making in book 3 (well, and one point in book 2) that canon and the AU world are hard to reconcile. So. Yeah. It doesn't help that I haven't read past book 4, so I'm doing most of my planning through the Lexicon site and the chapter round ups there. (Yes, I know, blasphemy that I haven't read past book 4 and attempting to write HP fic. I don't care. The series died there for me, because I REFUSE to accept the canon reality from there on out. Of course, I think Harry should have died, really died, in book 7 so heretic am I).
*ducks any and all potential flames*
Anyway. Yeah. That's the state of the household at the moment. I'm using Himself's computer right now for checking email and stuff. I might just curtail a lot of my site surfing indefinitely...or at least until I get a lap top or something that is purely dedicated to site surfing, that I can reformat at any point and not worry about losing anything. *evil grin* No, no, I'm not angling for yet another computer, no! Of course not. *cackle*
Right, more tea is needed I believe. That and to watch the Women's World Cup final. Ta =)
