I have a new Hero...

After this weekend I have a new hero and its Dave.

Saturday night we were in a car with our friends Eric and Janette heading to a birthday party, but we couldn't find the place so we stopped at a Sunoco and Dave ran in to get directions. As he was walking out the door we all heard a loud crash and I saw him running across the street. A minivan smashed into a parked car and wobbled down the road stopping at the corner of an intersection by a phone pole. As soon as I saw him running I jumped out of the car and followed. Dave proceeded to check the driver's side and make sure the guy getting out of the minivan was okay. He appeared to be so he moved to the other side of the vehicle. A woman was getting out of the back saying she was okay and she started getting the three kids out of the car. Dave opened the passenger's door and the woman there was in bad shape. She started to get out of the car with Dave's help and he got her to the sidewalk. At this time I got across the street and helped him remove the last little boy from his toddler seat. Janette and Eric then got across and took the three kids and woman from the back over to the Sunoco to get them out of the rain. I left Dave with the passenger long enough to get him a bag of ice for her. The Sunoco ladies called the police and got the boys hot chocolate to warm them up. Dave gently checked out the passenger to make sure she was okay which she wasn't. Her right side of her face from ear to chin was pretty banged up, scraped and bruising. He checked her right hand and she said she couldn't feel it. He slowly and gently worked up her arm until about halfway up her forearm where he could tell it was broken. He had to work on keeping her awake until the ambulance got there. He kept asking her what her name was, how old she was, who the driver was..... anything to keep her talking as she kept slipping away. When the police arrived Dave and I told them what happened and Dave said the driver was in the Sunoco so I took the officer over to the family and I returned to Dave and the woman. The officer came back and said everyone inside the Sunoco said the passenger was the driver. Dave insisted that he pulled the woman from the passenger's seat and the officer said they would have to check the camera on that street to see. Dave insisted that the man in the Sunoco was driving the minivan. The cop said there was no man in the Sunoco. The driver RAN.... he just left the scene!!!! Before the ambulance took the passenger away Dave told the medic everything he learned from her. I hope they find the guy who was driving...... especially since I found out from the police why he ran. They found cocaine in the back of the minivan... All I have to say is I am so angry at the guy... who was probably high to begin with... hit a parked car, but driving with two women and three little children... none older than 4 years old and the lady in the back of the minivan even looked pregnant.... this is unforgivable.... I am so proud of Dave for what he did... I am glad I could help get the kids out of the car, but if it wasn't for him the passenger may have slipped into a comma or worse before the police or the ambulance even arrived. He is a very special person and I am glad to have him in my life....
