WTF, Supernatural?

Apr 30, 2015 10:19

Okay, it's been a while since I wondered why they don't TPTB at the CW ask people who actually watch Supernatural to write it.

Let's recap some of the more puzzling moments from last night, shall we?

1) Since when does Sam Winchester, born in Kansas and mostly raised in the upper Midwest by a father born in Illinois, say "Y'all go check it out."? Yes, that's probably Jared (is there such a thing as reverse character bleed?) and not the writers, but it's still something that should have been caught in editing. It's the little details they don't bother with any more that make the show running seem sloppy.

2) Dean Winchester beat people's heads against things before the Mark of Cain. Yes, I understand Cas and Sam have more reason to worry about him losing his cool and getting himself into trouble now, but grounding him for abusing one thug was a bit overprotective.

3) Haven't we beaten the "kill all the mothers" trope into the ground yet? It's getting ridiculously predictable by now.

4) So you remember how Kevin Tran's mother had to take his spirit home with her because Heaven was locked? You know, Kevin, the prophet, who should be in the express lane to Heaven? How did Amelia get in?

5) Why would the Winchesters, who carry an arsenal in their trunk, who collect any and all weapons that may be of use to them, let Claire take a Grigori sword with her? Especially MOC!Dean, who is especially fond of pointy objects these days?

6) On the other hand, why would Claire want to carry around her mother's murder weapon? Honestly, the characters of Supernatural are not known for their sound mental health choices, but that one kinda takes the cake.

7) Speaking of Claire, the kid has a concussion (because they don't go away in less than 24 hours, no matter how many times Sam has instantly recovered), her mother just died in her arms, she's being sent to live with a total stranger in a strange place, and to say the least, she's had a rough few years before all this. You mean to tell me that Dean, Sam, and Cas, who have all stepped up and played Dad or at least Uncle in this episode, just put her in a cab with a driver they didn't test for being demon or any other monster, and send her from Tulsa to Sioux Falls alone?

That's not to say that overall, this wasn't a good episode. I did like it. I do feel that it was a good "interlude" episode, that the Grigori have excellent potential as a recurring monster, and that while maybe this particular episode didn't further the MOC arc, it didn't slow it down either.

But that doesn't mean there weren't holes big enough to drive a truck through.
