This photo is shamefully stolen from
vitriolpoisoned. She's the bomb. So here's the ginger/aqua linen Venetian-turned Italian Middle-class gown I made for Uprising. The bodice is made lined in the same ginger linen, and interlined with cotton duck. Eyelets are hand-bound and reinforced with metal rings. Guards were sewn on by hand.
To complete this outfit, I plan to make reversible sleeves made with the ginger and aqua linens. I also want to make a better camacia (currently being worn with my extra poofy high-necked smock), and a partlet with a much more crisp ruffle. Despite the limp-ocity of the smock, I was pleased when I saw this picture with how the overall effect came off. Woo for awesome mistakes!
Oh, the apron was entirely sewn by hand with a scrap of linen left over from Aeo's Norse tunic, and some flat red cotton cord I had in my stash couched down, also by hand. It came out a little longer than my brain pictured it, so I may take it up at the waist a smidge.
I was also super stoked by all the "cute dress!" comments I received at the event, because this project came through so much faster than any dress I've ever made, and with significantly less heartache and swearing.
Oh! not to forget that
vitriolpoisoned did my hairs for the event. I think having the right style makes a HUGE difference in the overall effect.
I am wanting to get a slightly less dressy laurel medallion, for when pearls are not so appropriate. I have read many occasions of working class ladies wearing strings of coral beads. Mayhaps
hollyiggymom would be interested in a commission? *evil grins*
