happy batman day!

tonight, i will be seeing the midnight show of Dark Knight.  i am so excited i don't know what to do with myself.

this in no way compares to the excitement of seeing a midnight show of Lord of the Rings.  that excitement began to build up about a week in advance.  you knew about the impending NerdStorm as if you had seen it on a meterologist's computer-generated map, a wavy front line bespeckled with interweb lingo and years of social-awkwardness.  NerdStorm needed as much preparation as Y2K--canned foods in the basement, extra cash, and, most importantly, a costume to show your admiration and excitement for Tolkein's world made visual reality.

with the outfits, i was never as Xcore as some people.  i didn't wear a cape to school or anything.....katy, you know i mean you :D.  i would wear a hippie skirt and a hot topic corset and some pretty jewelry.  i was going for sexy elf maiden.  now, my dressing up is more particular.  unless the costume is all-out awesome, i won't do it.  and i only have enough time and energy for a few costumed events a year.  halloween.  the renaissance faire.  and, you know, performances.

the NerdStorm clouds would appear on the horizon at least 24 hours in advance, foreshadowing the coming greatness.  i would get slightly ADHD, unable to focus on my homework, fidgeting in class throughout the day, trying to remember my favorite parts of
the story, doodling elvish designs in the margins of my physics notes.  by the time we were waiting in the epic line, i thought i was going to explode.

my batman excitement is a little more subdued.  maybe that's because i don't have a day full of high school classes to be distracted during.  instead, i can read as many reviews as i want.  also, i don't have as much of a personal stake in batman as i do in lord of the rings.  batman is my second favorite superhero*.  he's so ballin!  he doesn't have or even need a superpower.  ha is armed with dedication, vigilante justice, and a gadget collection topped only by a certain inspector with a certain notorious trenchcoat....

did i just make inspector gadget sound like a flasher?  i think i did :/

last, but certainly not least, there are rumours that an official watchmen tralier preceeding the movie.  ahhhh i'm so excited!!

*the X-Men are my first, which is kind of cheating, because they're a group, but you always read about them working as a unit.  you wouldn't want them to fly solo.  it wouldn't be justin timberlake without N*Sync.  it would be paul mccartney without the beatles.  thanks, paul, for wings.  NOT.

in other news, i had an interview for the skokie library this morning.  it was actually really fun.  the funniest part [to me] was when one of the women was describing her work with a community group.  she said that they had never googled themselves, and i was absolutely shocked.  i made a weird face and everything.  we really are children of the 21st century.  we are so used to the constant flow of information that it surprises us when people aren't as completely up-to-date about everything all the time.  amazing.
