Sweet Vids

Dec 09, 2007 14:22

Just passed the halfway point in my American Drama paper.  Works Cited = finished, so just 4 more pages left to type.  And, frankly, I've gotten an A on everything else in the class, so if I don't argue this point REALLY well, it's not the end of world.  Frankly, I just want to be done.  I wish I had the energy to care about it, because it's a topic I really do care about, but I don't.

In any case, in honor of a study break:

The InterWeb has allowed people from all over the world to connect through what would otherwise be considered random, awkward, and off-color humour.  YouTube has been one of the major propagators of this phenomenon, causing nerds to repeatedly quote not only Star Wars and The Simpsons, but also some dude who was narcissistic enough to post himself acting like a total douche for the entire world to see.

Sometimes, however, these total douches hit on something that is actually funny.  Here are my picks.

THE TWENTY FUNNIEST/BEST YouTube VIDEOS EVER!

  1. Dramatic Hamster.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8Kyi0WNg40
A classic.  Short and hilariously funny.
  2. Torn Mime.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osnUB9bUm-E
You may have thought that 90s pop was outdated and overrated.  Think again.
  3. Power Thirst.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRuNxHqwazs
I did not know what I was getting into when my sister pulled this video up on my computer.  Power Thirst?  I thought.  Just sounds like an energy drink.  But it is so much more.
  4. Separate Ways.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQbZRMLKozk
The pop icon Journey, made famous with the younger crowd when "Don't Stop Believin" appeared on the O.C.  Or was it Laguna Beach?  Mr. Rogers??  Anyway, the utter tackyness of their entire career shines through in this particular vid.  Journey themselves, however, are none the wiser.
  5. Ten Things I Hate About Commandments.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1kqqMXWEFs
We all know that I have a penchant for combining movie titles.  Whoever made this video is the most admirable comic adversary that I have.
  6. Washington.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5nJ5zpQOPg
An homage to our nation's mythic hero in the one musical style that could capture his sought-after essence:  rap.
  7. Mountain Climber.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VptUav41FQg A flub from a live news broadcast.

  8. Bing Bong Bros.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4iiyRv_NrQ
A parody of the Ying Yang Twins' "The Whisper Song."  After watching this video, listen to the actual Whisper Song and see how the lyrics overlap.  I don't know how the Bing Bong Bros could possible parody lyrics that were already so stupid!
  9. Ask-A-Ninja.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvWg9PUKXnI
This is a whole series of wonderful, Dear-Abby-style questions answered by a Ninja.
  10. Cat Fence.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDFkP5JCgaM
Another animal acting strangely.  Its short and increases in comic value the more you watch it.
  11. Charlie the Unicorn.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5im0Ssyyus
Another classic.  Don't be fooled by thousands of tweens running around with a quote from Charlie the Unicorn rushing through their lips.  The comedy is for all ages and cynicism levels.
  12. Guns.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY0DfFlzcBk
This particular sketch combines a lot of things that I like and that have loads of comic possibilities:  movie trailers, "what if" speculations a la Sliders, and even a Law & Order reference.
  13. Flea Market Montgomery.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ3oHpup-pk
A real advertisement from a store in 'Bama.  I guess it worked, cause I sure want to shop there.
  14. Hipster Olympics.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAO4EVMlpwM
    Lols-a-plenty!
  15. Yatta Yatta.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9rWFZesV8s
As you watch this, you're not quite sure what you're seeing.  The most basic particle is Music Video.  Add silly Japanese men, a catchy tune, and near-nuditiy, and you've almost got this video.  Perhaps the secret ingredient is....magic....?
  16. Zelda Trailer.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB89-9X6YS0
Actually what I want to get into.  The whole amateur trailer thing.  A very admirable piece of work, complete with epic music and a scene that was clearly shot at a Renaissance Faire.
  17. Harry Potter's Tra La La.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMnaDcGrV3s
The ultimate FanFic:  a YouTube video flawlessly splicing together clips from the movies to the croonings of EuroPop sensation Gunther to create a Harry Potter with a rather dirty goal.
  18. What What In the Butt.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbGkxcY7YFU
Another one that you're not too sure what's happening.  It's so weird and absurd that you have to laugh.
  19. Muffins.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tcR19y7GPM
Another one diluted by an army of high schoolers quoting it on their facebook page.  Not necessarily one to watch everyday, but once a month should do it, because it's still pretty funny.
  20. Drunk Tyler.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYxZR2uJ39A
This is a friend of mine at his finest.  The video loses some of its charm after it's been re-enacted at party after party after party, but, hey, the novelty of knowing a YouTube D-List celeb doesn't wear off easily.
Okay, YouTube is being a bitch and not working.  So I'll add the rest of the URLs later.  Be patient or search them yourself.
