Misha

My boy Misha crossed over the bridge Sunday night. He had been sick a short time, having trouble swallowing his food. Finally he got where he couldn't eat at al.

I sure do miss him. He was very special to me. I adopted him from a shelter in Sandy, Utah the last day they were keeping him. He was always a very polite little man, never doing the typical ferret things like chewing things he shouldn't, or knocking things off tables. Not a cuddler, but we would have "love fests" at times, where I scratched him and he licked my nose raw.

Even on our last trip to the vet's, he was still willing to be a ferret ambassador to someone who had never seen a ferret before. He heart was still so full of life, it was a really painful decision. But his poor little body was failing fast. He has lost half his weight.

The vet did a necropsy, gratis. She was curious about it and wanted to spread any information she found out to other vets. Tonight she sent me this:

He had an enlarged lymph node near the base of his heart, likely cancerous and pressing on his esophagus. He also had several tumors on his pancreas and both of his adrenal glands were enlarged and cancerous looking.

The babies have both looked for him. Harvey is the hardest hit though. He has been sleeping in Misha's cage a lot, something he hasn't done before. But today he finally started keeping me company again so I think he will be ok. Miss Sweet Pea is being more aloof than normal, but she is doing ok.

I am doing ok too. But I do miss hearing him in his "bachelor pad" which was under my bed.
