hello :) I just want to help out with your questions as I ship a lot of international packages when I sell my doujinshi ...

"First Class international" flat rate envelope is $13.45 and should fit the 3 artbooks with no problem. It's a flat rate so it only cost $13.45 as long as what you put into the envelope fits. I've tried fitting 10 doujinshi each about 20-30 pages with no problem so when you do the math the 3 artbook should fit fine. However, this method does not provide insurance or tracking and should take about 1-2 weeks. It is similar to "airmail" as you would call it in other countries but in American we don't use those terms. If you want tracking or insurance with this method you must get it registered and in America register mail cost an extra $12 which you mind as well just opt for express mail (please see below)

"Express Mail International" Flat rate envelope is $28.95 (this is basically the "EMS" versions in America as I mentioned we don't use the same terms) It is the same size envelope as the method mentioned above so it fits the same contents. The difference is that this method is "express" so it will reach its destination in about 2-3 days and includes tracking&insurance.

"flat rate" is usually cheaper than the weighted option when you buy heavy items such as books. A 40 page book is usually 200grams is about 7-8 ounces. You can input your information here http://ircalc.usps.gov/ and do the calculations for the weighted option.

Oh yes sorry I meant priority flat rate not first class haha

but anyway it really depends on the size of the book. I do not know because different artist use different printing companies and paper can be flimsy or pretty thick. It really depends on how thick each book is but as I mentioned I've tried sticking 10 doujinshi which stacked was more than 1 inch thickness.

Over-stuffing the flat rate envelope can cause it to be hard to close, but here is the trick I use. Put the books into one of those yellow business envelopes (not the bubble wrap ones its not necessary) and flatten the air out. Usually the standard yellow envelope is the size of the flat rate envelope provided by the USPS. Then you stick that envelope into the flat rate envelope and there shouldn't be any problems closing the flat rate envelop since everything is nice and smooth-out by the yellow envelope.

Another tip is that since flat rate cost the same no matter what you shove in the envelope I usually put in a thick cardboard cut out to be the size of the books or envelope (whatever size fits) to make sure the books don't get bent in the shipping process. If you seal enough books in the envelope it should create its own hardness and the board is not needed, but if there is extra space/air for bending the envelope then the board is helpful to protect them on their long journey.

I just use the boxes I get from all the shopping I do or I go to the postal office and take some of those flat rate medium sized boxes they give out for free and cut them up to make the backing boards :)

Sorry for butting in Linda ^^ v Just wanted to help out a little ...
