yes, ringworm.
what happened was this: the lady whose husband/old man/live-in lover/etc i had spoken to, and left my contact info with, called me. she left me a couple of messages and i called her back today after work. i told her i'd bring her a box and for her to use it to keep any kittens in if she found them, and to call me once the kitten was contained. i think she's slow, mentally, and i'm thinking it's a combination of a lifetime of hard living, hard drinking, and probable physical abuse. the woman she gave the kitten to, my across-the-street neighbor deb, fits that description to a T and the kitten woman could be deb in 15 years. it's not a pretty sight. her man is suspicious of me, and i'm just damned lucky i not only had a kid with me when i approached him the other day but also because i was able to do some fast talking about how and why i was nosing around his apartment complex. it's just providence that the first person i approached wound up being the partner of the woman who was the source of the original kitten.
so anyway, i spoke to this woman tonight, lorrie and her man (name unknown) and i gave them a sturdy cardboard box for kitten-keeping. while i was talking to her man, she went off to see if she could find any more of the kittens, and lo and behold - a fluffy blue point siamese/himalayan kitten with a gukky tail (which turned out to be the aforementioned and dreaded ringworm. gah.). i took it to my car, which still had the other cat carrier in it, and plunked the fluffy little guy inside. when D answered her cell, i asked her if she had room at the inn for one more, and she laughed kind of low and rueful. she said to bring him on over so i did, and once i'd brought the carrier inside and she got him out and looked at that gukky tail...well, that's when the whole saving-kittens endeavor became a horrible pain in the ass. *sigh* D and her partner A have several dogs and cats, and not all of them have immunity to the fungus that causes ringworm. double gah. and of course, not only does the new kitten have ringworm, so does toes.
