God's Country

I decided to go to the play today. And I just got home from the play. I have two reactions:
1. It's the scariest fucking thing I've ever seen on a stage.
2. It was so amazingly awesome I can't articulate enough.

White supremacists who tried to set up a "white haven" in the Northwest- WA, OR, ID, MT, WY. It was so frightening... they turned the stage around and had everyone seated in what is essentially the backstage area, normally. So there were supposedly 100 seats, but it seemed much smaller. And when Nash came out of the door that leads into a costume area, dressed in a scarlet KKK robe and spouting bible verses in one breath and hate in the next. It was funny when I first saw him, but then I started listening to what he was saying. And then it started making sense, and I started realizing why these people believe these things so strongly... and it's fucking scary.
(Also... Caleb's whole diatribe about "making war by making love" was a bit... o.O)

Then, the creepiest part of this whole thing was when Gramma came to pick me up and I started gushing about how awesome the play was. Apparently, this happened not so long ago as I might like to believe (during my lifetime; around 10 years ago)... and it happened right near here. Gramma herself has had to deal with these people coming in to the clerk & recorder's office, and trying to file false paperwork. She said that at one point they had a direct line to the Sheriff's office just in case anyone became violent.

I'm seriously frightened, now. These people are scary, and they're right near here. Suddenly, that whole mess from last year or so, when the white supremacist tried to get on the school board, is taking on a whole new light.
