In the past 24 hours, we have received a string of sad news. None of them affect me directly, but all of this at once weighs heavy on my mind.
Last night, we found out that Denver's friend's wife, Mary, has Stage 3 cancer. Brandt, Mary's husband's and Denver's friend practically grew up with Denver. They were each other groomsmen's. I have only met Mary a few times, but Denver knows her very well and is saddened this is happening to their family. They have two small children, Jude (5) and Riley (2). There is a GoFundMe page to raise money to help the Hawes pay for Mary's medical expenses. Denver was so upset we're broke right now because we can't contribute anything at the moment. But hopefully business will pick back up and we may have something a little extra to try to give.
This morning, I found out a classmate from my middle and high school was murdered Monday night. He was shot multiple times by a guy described as having "anger issues." The two got off a public bus in West Palm Beach, FL and the suspect just shot him. As far as authorities know, this was done randomly and without reason. I knew Taylor. Not very well, mind you, but I have memories of him being a class clown in middle school. This is just sad. Why does this happen? Why are people with "anger issues" allowed to carry firearms? Why??
This afternoon, I called my friend Beth to wish her a Happy Birthday. I don't really call people anymore to do that, so I thought it would be special. She is currently on vacation with her mother down in South Florida, but she told me she is having a miserable time. Her car broke down when they got there, so it is in the shop, and her mother is feeling ill. Her mother had oral cancer surgery a few months ago and is due for another surgery this Friday, so I think that has something to do with why she is not feeling well. To top it all off, it is raining, so they cannot even do anything if they wanted to. Beth actually started crying on the phone with me. Beth is the type of person who always looks on the brightside and never lets bad things get her down (at least, she never lets others see her sadness), so this really took me aback. She wasn't sure if the mechanics would get the parts they ordered in time when she needed to leave, so she said she would try to chance driving it back home. She said she has AAA, but she has to be within 100 miles of home (I didn't realize there was a mile limit) and she is 200 miles away from home. I told her if she broke down and AAA wasn't able to help her, Denver and I would come down and tow her car. I want to help her,and this is the best I could offer her. No one should be crying on their birthday.
But, let's end this post with less sad things.
I've been having a lot of weird dreams lately that have been influenced by the shows we've been watching. Right now, we are watching Parks and Recreation, Sliders, and Continuum.
In P&R, the main character is Leslie Knope. She is currently crushing on another character, Ben Wyatt, but they can't be together because Ben is her boss and she is running for city council, so she does not want there to be a "scandal" that later ruins her political career. AND IT'S SO SAD TO WATCH THEM NOT BE TOGETHER because they like each other soooo much.
Anyway, I keep dreaming about Ben for some reason. I guess I kinda like him, too? Yesterday I dreamt there was some Native American war going on in our town that Denver was involved in, and I was fearing for his life. And Ben is there just giving me updates on what's going on. And somehow I find out I'm pregnant, so I'm super sad that Denver might die. Oh, and my life is in danger too because this war is taking place outside our house. CRAZY. And I found out by some random old woman IN OUR HOUSE that I'm pregnant because she" can sense these things."
Last night my dreams were meshed more with Sliders and Continuum. In an episode of Sliders, there was some weight loss medicine that essentially turned people into zombies because the medicine made them crave fat (lol, wtf?). So in my dream, there was a wasp that when it stung you, you would eventually turn into a zombie. And I'm the main character from Continuum, who is a "Protector" aka cop from the year 2077 who was sent back in time with a bunch of terrorists trying to ruin shit in the past. She has this awesome suit she wears that acts as a bullet proof vest and lets her do other cool futurist cop stuff (Yes, my grammar is awesome!). Though for some reason, I'M NOT WEARING THIS SUIT so I get stung by the stupid wasp. This kid who is also in the show Continuum (he is the one who eventually creates all the cool futurist cop stuff in the show) is in my dream and says he's immune to the wasp string and has developed an antidote. I asked if I could have it, but he's being a douche because I'm the Protector and he's really one of the terrorists from the future, so he doesn't want to help me. And just to mess with me further, my friends from high school, Danny and Ricky, are also in the dream as semi-zombies. Well, I knew Danny was, but I don't know if Ricky was. I think he was okay.
On a less weird note, I lost another 3 pounds! I have officially lost 18.5 pounds total. Yay!
A part of me wants to buy new clothes, but I know i'm just going to keep losing weight. Another part of me wants to start getting rid of my "fat" clothes, but I think I will keep them and use them as "pregnancy" clothes in the future. Win-win!
