I love Rufus Wainwright's version of Hallelujah- and have been singing that for awhile now. Ever since Thursday I have been starting my vacation and have four more glorious weeks at it. I think I did well enough on my finals to sail through to next semester, and to be honest, my finals were a lot easier than any of my other exams this year! They were still challenging...but nonetheless easier.
Now I am focused on going to the theater a lot over break to make up for all the films I couldn't see because of classes. I am definitely seeing I Am Legend and National Treasure 2. I Am Legend is supposed to be so good. And I am really just a sucker for post- apocalyptic stories. I don't know why- it's so depressing, but also very scary to think one day I may be the last person on earth for whatever reason. And the imagining how I would stay alive- it just freaks me out even thinking it. So thus I get a rush watching those type of films.
One critic complained that the monsters weren't scary though. What people don't get is that I Am Legend, if they took time to read the book it is based on, is not truly a horror story. It's science fiction, and one of the most popular science fiction stories. So if you intend on only being scared by monsters in this film, you will be disappointed. The idea of being "the last man (or er woman lol) on earth" is supposed to be the scary part. And how you cope with it, mentally and emotionally- as Will's character constantly battles throughout.
I'm not saying it deserves a Globe, although it will probably be a lot more entertaining than any film that does win a Globe- but the movie has more depth than just a flashy monster flick does. I myself cannot wait for it. And I love movies like National Treausre for its fun adventure so equally excited for that as well.
Oh yeah and shopping...lots of Xmas shopping I have to do. The stores are already incredibly crowded with hostile people every day. I also think driving gets worse at this time of the year. It seems no one knows how to drive respectably during Xmas. It's the most dangerous time of the year in my opinion.
So drive/ shop safe everyone! :)
