Need help transporting stuff to DragonCon?

Jul 04, 2009 09:50

I'm driving from Colorado Springs to DragonCon, and I admit, I don't trust the airlines with my costumes & luggage.

I'm hauling a trailer because our costumes don't fit in the car (we take that many) but by no means fill up our trailer. We did this in the past with a U-haul, but I've since bought a much bigger (and nicer) enclosed trailer and have plenty of space. I've transported costumes to D*Con for friends in Denver in past years, so I can provide references if you're paranoid. I'm an 11th year D*Con venteran, and to explain why we have to drive now - my husband and I do Davy Jones and Bootstrap Bill from Pirates of the Caribbean, and those costumes are too big and delicate to ship. And that's just one set of costumes.

Our route has us leaving Colorado and passing through the cities of Topeka, Kansans City, St, Louis, Paduach, Nashville, Chattanooga, and all little cities in between that Interstates 70, 64, 57, 24, and 75 pass through. We're willing to meet people at interstate exits to pick up stuff, but are not willing to drive any distance out of our way. Since we do the drive straight through, leaving Wednesday morning and arriving Thursday mid-day, I may be passing through your area in the middle of the night. We leave Monday morning as soon as everything is all packed up, which realistically is close to noon.

I think it's fair to ask for $25 per suitcase/box/whatever-big-costume-piece each way, which is what the airlines would charge you. It helps me cover gas and you'd have the piece of mind of knowing that once your stuff is in the trailer, it won't be manhandled, crushed, rummaged through by TSA, and you'll be picking it up from me at the Mariott yourself. If you don't get there until really late Thursday or Friday, you'll have to find someone to get your bag or see if the front desk will hold it.

So, if interested, please contact me via LJ message, email at pktaxwench (at) aol.com, or IM me at aerynsun4ever, and we'll chat about pickup times and stuff. I just don't want to put my phone number on an open forum, you'll understand.
