As if this topic hasn't been beat to the ground.
I've gone through a lot of the threads on the crowding issue with the con, there are a lot, so forgive me if I've missed some.
Anyways, from what I gather, (correct me if I'm wrong), is that most of the crowding issues are revolving around the Hyatt, while the Mariott and the Hilton seem at least tolerable. Certainly neither of the latter hotels were shut down or anything.
Could it be that the crowding problem doesn't stem from insufficient space, but rather poor management of the available space? I don't know, but it seems that if hundreds of people weren't being forced through narrow stairwells/corridors, if there were guide ropes, and if the events were more evenly distributed among the three hotels, that would go a long way towards easing the crowding issues.
Obviously, we have to make sure that we've optimized the space available before looking into other solutions. Capping attendance or things like that aren't going to help if the available space is still going to be mismanaged and crowd control is still disorganized.
I don't know, I'm not a con organizer and this is only my second con, so forgive me if I'm speaking (posting) out of turn. Perhaps someone who is more knowledgeable in these affairs than me could offer some insight?
