So we went wandering around today on public transit -- something that's much more feasible now that they have up-to-date bus info on the interwebs. It used to be, I would have had to either find a paper copy of the schedule or squint at a pdf schedule on their website, neither of which could be grounded in reality. Now, I can go "hey when's the next 264 gonna be at that stop? Oh, twenty minutes, we've got time to finish our drinks and walk over there."
The downside to being a Wonderbread-American who loves sunlight and is basically heatproof is that I never notice I'm getting sunburned until it's too late. After all that time outside, we were almost home when I scratched at an itch and then thought "Uh oh. That skin feels sunburned." Got home, looked in the mirror, sure enough. Roasted.
I even have a bottle of sunblock in my purse! I just ... never think about it until I'm already bright red. Oh well, at least I have a giant bottle of aloe vera here. Frequent slathering of aloe vera = burn doesn't peel, in my experience.
Doctors sometimes ask me (as a skin cancer screening question) whether I've ever sunburned badly. I want to just say HELLO, I'M A CRACKER MCWHITEYSON IN LOS ANGELES AND I HAVE THE MEMORY OF A TEFLON SIEVE. It's been a long time since I burned badly, but come on.
