Wow, lots of interesting thoughts here! Just a few that jumped out at me:
I did have readers asking for a sequel-even after I’d put an author’s note at the end declaring the ‘verse “open” for anyone else who might want to play in it. There were no takers. At least, if there were, I missed them.
People generally seem pretty reluctant to play in someone's e\sandbox, don't they? I've always kind of wanted to start trading stories back and forth with people--but at the same time, I confess that I'm enough of a control freak about my worlds that I might not be easy to deal with when they go and do the "wrong" things. :)
I could, at the very least, avoid the cliché of an inmate wrapped in a straitjacket in a padded room 24x7. Yeah, boy, Arkham is a real challenge in that way. I'm pretty sure there is no place on earth like that any more, it's largely a sort of nightmare echo of a time long past. It's fine as a sort of metaphor for getting villains off the street, but imagining actual daily life in a place like it often appears in

Yes. Present company definitely included. At the time, though, I didn't think I'd be able to do the concept justice, as much as I did think a follow-up was in order. Opening up the 'verse felt like a good idea at the time. In retrospect, though, I am glad there were no takers.

I love the feeling that you're venturing out into new territory all the time along with Bruce in this series!There are times I have to remember that Maggie's never been Gotham Police Commissioner. That's one thing that... sigh... I'm actually glad she is. It works well. When I started the AU, Jim had retired and I could never come up with a way to bring him back. And now, well, given how much closer he's come to the Bat-circle, I think that he'd refuse any appeals to retake his old post. He just does so much better as a civillian who's not afraid to
