So, back after having my op!

Was pretty cool actually. Firstly discovered that the whole going to the gym thing has paid off dividends. My ridiculously high blood pressure, taken before Christmas 2004, has come down to a more-than-respectable 126 / 66, which made my day.

Now, I've not been nervous about today, atall. I mean seriously-it's mere minor surgery, and I wasn't worried. Not got a thing about anasthetic, as I've been under before, and yet...Don't know what it is, but I had a really bad feeling about this op. No fear, no worry, just...expecting the worst. So, as I explained to piperfan, I spent a long time over the week and weekend writing out a huge letter-kind of like my will. I explained what I wanted to happen to all my stuff, who my mum should contact, wrote a few letters to be posted to friends (yes, including most of you. Morbid, perhaps, but something I felt really needed to be done.

So, this morning, I posted that to myself (on the assumption it'll be safe from reading unless something does happen. Then got to the hospital (discussing on the way the curious story of the Welshman who cut off his own testicles after the Wales Vs England rugby match). Was the first into the surgery. Donned the curiously attractive paper knickers. Was doped up, into surgery and out within four hours. Scarily efficient, for the NHS!

Still, it being Valentines Day and with my effervescent flirting (even for me!), I woke up from recovery with hearts drawn all over my body.

I do kinda mean all over. :D!

Never seen a grown sexy nurse blush like that, though :D

Anyways. When I came out from under the general anasthetic, they shot my knee full of local anasthetic and a big jab of morphene for the pain. So, when I woke up, I was like Mr Hard Man-it doesn't hurt!

Now, of course, that's starting to wear off.

AARRRGGGHH!!! :( :( :(

Still, not bad, considering.

Also, some (dare I say it?) positive news. The surgeon, after taking a poke around my knee confirmed that I'm halfway to arthritus as it is, and my knee has degraded to a level where it's beyond ridiculous. But. He said that if I come back in, they reshape all the bones, file the kneecap, insert a titanium plate, bolt part of my thigh-lots of nasty stuff, really-it should be possible to delay my knee replacement for 10-15 years!!!

OK, he said it'd be a lot leff for me, as I'm obviously a big guy and I work out a lot, but it's still delaying the knee replacement!! And once this surgery is done, I'll be 100% mobile-we're not talking any restriction, here!

He also said that, instead of waiting nearly a year to get this done on the NHS waiting lists, he may slot me in under one of his R & D cases that all surgeons are allowed-which means I'll be in in 6-8 weeks, rather than around 60.

*cries*

I love that man, and want to have his babies.

I'm also a little bit spaced out at the moment. Good shit the NHS is peddling, these days!

*goes off to play with the birdies*
