Well, Rev. Falwell has shuffled off the mortal coil and wandered off to wherever it is he will be going. For the record, he used to be my neighbor. The Maternal Unit and I lived with my grandparents for a while, just a few doors down the road from Jerry. The Old Time Gospel Hour was broadcast out of the old A&P complex across the street from the first hobby store I ever got to go to on a regular basis.
Years later, I ended up working at a cable television studio with folks who had worked for Falwell's OTGH. They once remarked that it was amazing how the most creatively filthy language was generated in the control room of that studio. Oh, the irony.
Whether you believe his life engendered more good or more ill is up to you, but he certainly left his mark.
Baseball Geek
Sometimes the company does something nice for us. As a springtime treat, we got a ditch-day (well, afternoon) to go to a local baseball game. I had forgotten about it, so no ball cap or fan-appropriate gear for me. I am an old-school computer geek, and I admit it. One of my co-workers was watching the numbers get put up on the scoreboard and lamented that it was still a manual process with painted boards, etc. Considering the placement of the scoreboard, I think they made the right choice. An electronic scoreboard would get destroyed in no time. So there we were, watching the home team score the fourth run of the inning, and the guy next to me ponders what happens if they score more than nine runs? All those scores are single digits.
Without missing a beat, I told him, they switch over to hexadecimal.
The rest of the row cracked up laughing....
Told you it was baseball geekery
