ealdthryth called me Saturday afternoon with the news that she was feeling unwell and coming home from work early. As I happened to be soldering plugs into the the portable layout, I asked if I needed to come home. I didn't. However, since my sweetie was going to be home, we decided to go ahead and deal with the couch and some assorted items. I hurried home, we loaded the couch into the bed of the pickup and I got to the ReStore just before closing time. My timing was so close that an errant traffic light would mean the difference between being unencumbered and having to drag the darn thing back into the house and have it block progress for another week. I had
ealdthryth call ahead, just in case. To optimize my trip, I collected a load of pine straw for the yard, but failed to unload it before it got waterlogged from the Saturday evening rain.
Anyone peeking in the front windows of the house might have gotten the impression we are moving out. The living room is pretty much empty other than some floor lamps and a couple of cartons of flooring. Adding to the illusion is that we cleared the kitchen of furniture other than the bookshelf and baker's rack. I had to disassemble the kitchen table and spread the pieces around so it wouldn't be in the way. Serious mopping ensued. We moved about 2/3 of the flooring into the kitchen, so shuffling the remaining three cartons will only be a slight annoyance.
We ensured the cats still have access to their towers, so as to promote a measure of normality and "safety" for them.
Couchless Fu
Kiera is mighty disturbed by the turmoil of Phase II. She no longer has the couch to hide behind, but she can still slide under the entertainment center and peek out from there. She and AElfgifu are clearly Not Getting On Well as evidenced by the periodic squabbling we hear from upstairs. I'm pretty sure Kiera wants to be on (or scratch at) the tower AElf' normally commands.
Ded of Teh Kyoot Fu
Ignatius may have been disturbed by the clutter shuffle this weekend and needed comforting. He did something we've never seen him do before. He climbed up onto the chair with
ealdthryth, sat in her lap with his forepaws on her chest, and gave her "smoochies" (aka bunting her with his face) before rolling over slightly and falling asleep. We were amused to hear him snoring after a minute or two. What a sweet boy!
Portable Progress
We are very nearly done with the rewiring. I suspect that Doc and Bob will complete the work on Thursday and we'll spend Saturday checking that trains actually will run. Yay! Bob has speculated that once the re-re-wiring is complete, we can get a ballast crew in to make progress on the intermodal terminal and have it looking more complete in time for the Railroad Festival. Following the festival, I'm not sure what's going to happen. Supposedly, our current space is about to be rented (but it will need significant rehabilitation to turn it into a viable storefront). I suspect we'll end up storing the layout at the old depot, but it will be behind a locked gate, so I'm not sure how well that is going to work out for us other than as a very short-term situation.
April Fool!
Almost, but not quite. As I was walking around the corner to the museum, a couple of boys and their dad exited the restaurant next door to where the portable layout is set up. The sign in the window says "Function Junction", and a bunch of railroad paraphernalia is visible. Doc and Bob were operating power tools, so it was obvious something was happening in there. I just barely heard the boys excitedly exclaim We're getting a train store in town!.
Oh dear. They are going to be mighty disappointed....
And Now the Eternal Harrassment Begins
We had an introductory subscription to satellite radio as a result of purchasing a new vehicle. I have to admit that I did enjoy the music and having a variety of stations to listen to that don't all sound the same. We let the subscription expire because I don't really care enough about having satellite radio when I have other alternatives that don't cost me money every year. Today, I got my first harassment call to sign up. Apparently there isn't much use in putting them on the Do Not Call Registry because "we've done business before". At least it isn't text messages....
