Someone at work asked me an electrical engineering question just as you headed off to Pennsic. His question was whether a Faraday cage would protect the contents of a USB drive in the case of an EMP. I honestly didn't know the answer--mainly because I hadn't managed to get to the point of actually studying radiation effects on circuitry before I left my ECE education and career path.
I figured with the type of work you do, this would be similar to phenomenon satellites have to tolerate....
OK, I slightly lie. I *do* have a vague notion of what a Faraday cage is and what it is supposed to be for, but not quite the physics or whether it does what my coworker thinks it can.
Bounce :(
Alas, my rejoicing was premature. The dip in weight has been followed by a slight increase. I guess it is because I am now eating cafeteria food again. A week eating things scrounged from the empty 'fridge and barren pantry may have had more to do with that loss than normal. I seriously doubt I lost all that weight as a result of expelling phlegm and mucus. That would just be too gross to contemplate. Ooops! Already did!
Seriously, though, weight loss due to illness is never really a good idea, but when you are trying to advance towards a goal, sometimes you have to accept the serendipity of things going awry in a positive direction.
In other news, I am almost certain I am not doing my flexibility exercises correctly. Although I've been able to sleep through the night thanks to aspirin and antihystamine, getting ready once I am awake is slowed up by significant pain caused by once casual movements.... Grrrrr. I thought the exercises were intended to help me have better range of motion without pain. Perhaps they are intended to just provide me a better range of motion regardless of pain?

AElfgifu seemed more inclined to snooze on the bed while Ignatius was gone. I wonder who is really in charge. It is difficult to tell, but AElfgifu seems to growl and hiss at everyone a lot more. I think we really need to finish off the flooring project (but how?!?) and get the house back in a semblance of order. I admit the disarray is starting to get on my nerves, too.
Way Cool
I was doing a little search for models and the old Revell, Tyco, and IHC kits seem to have have disappeared off the market, or I just haven't figured out who bought the molds for them. I also got interested in the German "road system" sets that allow you to animate your automobile and truck traffic. It is better than slot cars because there is no telltale groove in your roadway, and there are lots of neat modules to help simulate parking, traffic lights, and so forth. The main problem for me is that the cars and trucks are all late-model European style. No Model T's or Terraplanes, etc.
One of the "complaints" from the local hobby store owners is that no one does anything to animate their layouts. Apart from the trains, everything is static display. There is some truth to that. However, lighting effects can often give the illusion of movement, and I spotted some neat billboard sets that have animated lighting. Alas, the sets cost more than the models I want to put them on. Urk!
