Sometimes I am far luckier than I deserve. Magnus was waiting for me when I got home--he was picking up a new key to the workshop. We chatted for a while, and he explained to me that the pitch of our roof was indeed too steep for anyone to be walking on. My averted Epic Fail trying to mount a solar panel was more luck and presence of mind over panic regardless of what I thought at the time. I also noticed that my chosen spot for the panel happened to be in the shadow of the birch in the late afternoon--so a second folly was avoided.
But the real trigger for this random musing is that I ran over my cell phone with the lawnmower.
OK. Wipe off your screens now.
During my perambulations outside, my cell phone made a bid for escape without me noticing. I went inside, changed clothes, and returned to the Great Outdoors to begin the dreaded task of lawn maintenance. After the first pass of mowing, I turned around and noted an unusual black lump on the driveway where the grass is encroaching.
It was my cell phone. After the adrenaline rush passed, I realized that the phone itself merely got dusty from being dragged through an anthill, and the only damage was a scrape and a knick chopped out of the belt clip where the blade caught it.
ealdthryth plans on an extensive campaign of mockery over this. Since the phone remains unscathed, I don't care...and yes, I am far luckier than I sometimes deserve to be.
Claw Fu
AElf' continues to be in a slightly hissy mood. The other evening,
ealdthryth brought down a pair of Capri pants to make sure they were wearable and see if a new catch needed to be sewn on. As soon as the pants were put on the couch, AElf' claimed them as a comfy spot...and would NOT relinquish possesssion of them.
ealdthryth attempted to pet AElf' several times, and was swatted (eventually with claws) for her trouble. Rodan Kitty Face ensued.
No! No! Bad Kitty!....Awww!....Aren't you cute!
This incident led to the clipping of all kitties' claws. When it is time for claw clipping, the cats make themselves scarce. I had to trick Kiera by putting out food, then gently snagging her. A brief cuddle and soothing words did nothing to actually soothe her, and she moaned and whined throughout the claw clippage. Poor baby!
