Migratory Robe Fu

Sep 29, 2009 11:37

I wonder if I could get a grant to study the migratory patterns of a fleecy robe around our house. As an experiment, ealdthryth and I have carefully avoided disturbing the robe, just to see where it travels. Within the space of two days, it started out in the corner behind the rocking chair, was moved to the middle of the bedroom floor, then to the hallway outside our bedroom. I came home from work to discover the robe downstairs on the kitchen floor, right at the little hallway to the foyer. It stayed there for about two more days, and when I woke up this morning, Josie was snoozing on it just inside the bedroom door. She just had the front half of her body on it as if she were holding down one edge so it wouldn't move again.

I am beginning to wonder if the cats are indeed moving it or whether they are pouncing on it to prevent its further perambulations.... What would be more worrisome is to discover that it is a bunch of fleas carting it around the house. EEEK!

Eldred 1.5, House 0

The easy stuff on the third floor has been taken care of, but there is still plenty to organize. Some time ago, the maternal unit-in-law gifted me with several boxes of back issues of various model railroading publications that she found at her local Friends of the Library sale. I've already collected many years' worth of them on my own, and have somewhat haphazardly filed them into binders and put them on shelves. Since my collection has tripled, I haven't made time to organize and weed out duplicates. Last night I channeled my wife's librarian skills and started making shelf labels and sorting things by year and publication. Exciting stuff, I know, but if you ever need to look up an article in a magazine, it sure makes finding the darn thing a LOT easier. Luckily, some of the publishers have provided an online index of articles, so I can use that as my "card catalog". Before the Internet was being heavily used, they used to put an insert with that cross-reference into one issue every year or so.

Of course, there is the question of what to do with my duplicate issues. Recycling would be easy, but there's plenty of relevant and useful information in those back issues, so I will end up with a box full of redundant magazines until such time that some spirit moves me to take further action....
EDIT: A near-retirement co-worker may have a home for at least some of the spare back issues. He cancelled his subscription for a short span of years while he was moving between jobs and had neither space nor time for his hobby.

Diet Redux

ealdthryth indicates that it may be time for a second round of detox and diet. I'm not altogether thrilled because it means that I will have to do more cooking--which means a lot more work ('cause it is both cooking and cleaning almost incessantly), getting up early (ugh), nutrient shakes (that I don't care much for), lower levels of animal-based protein (I'll get over it), and having to plan and "schedule" meals. All in all: Bleh.

OK, I may make "yucky cat face" about it, but the last time we did this, I hit my weight loss goal and I have managed to keep it there pretty consistently during the last year. Ditching another 15 pounds really would be good, and being rid of 20 would be great. That is the only reason I'm willing to put up with it. Unfortunately, the timing means we will probably still be on the wagon right at Thanksgiving. The trick will be to wait until the last minute to acquire Halloween candy and to dump it on the co-workers immediately....MMM-WAHAHAHA!

Gratitude

  1. My dhrama quotient is currently low. Let's keep it that way, shall we?
  2. The skies are clear enough that I can see the first row of the ridge line quite well. The second line is still obscured by yellow haze, but I'll take what I can get.
  3. Cool weather is here. Yay!
  4. Keeping at my initial weight-loss goal for nearly a year.
  5. A neater/more organized house is evolving.
