I nearly made myself late for work. Three out of four cats were lounging at our feet this morning. Josie was actually on my feet while Ignatius sacked out between
ealdthryth and myself. Kiera had snuggled next to her sweet Baboo and was happily purring next to him. Normally, she bolts as soon as I sit up. This morning, she stayed put and tolerated me petting her for a while, showing no inclination to move from Ignatius' side.
MMMM! Plush kitty endorphins!
Good News!
It turns out that the alleged termite activity was, in fact, a mistake on our carbon copy of the pest control report. The exterminator checked "No evidence" on the top sheet, but the paper was misaligned just enough to mark "Evidence" on the copy below it. That is a big relief!
Smog Redux
I thought that a good rainstorm usually cleared the air. Following last night's rain, I had hoped for a clear view of the mountains today. No such luck--the local atmosphere is back to being a sickly slightly yellow haze again. The ridge is a mere shadow glimpsed through the miasma. I wonder if Atlanta's pollution stuck to the back end of the storm like some sort of meteorological cling-on....
New Urban Blight
Hmmm. The national news media put out an article noting the newest form of urban blight is empty "big box" stores. Guess what? That has already been happening for years here. This area couldn't support two indoor shopping malls, yet somehow two of them were built within two miles of one another. We also managed to have 5 Waffle Houses within a 5 mile radius in that same vicinity. All of a sudden, a big box store wants to expand, plunks down on some newly available land outside the city limits and all of a sudden everything migrated to the other side of the Interstate, leaving behind a jumble of decaying shells that can't be utilized by even a "specialty big box" because the new Super Center sells *everything* and any other retailer is automatically a competitor.
The only saving grace is that by merely relocating across the way, there was no net job loss. However, we are still stuck with the new urban blight, and a massive local deforestation. Ah, the irony of cutting down all the trees, paving over the acreage, and having the audacity to call it "Green Ridge"....
