Progress of a Sort

Rather than doing anything that moves our house towards cleanliness, organization, or repair, I've spent the last two evenings doing our bookkeeping. Technically, that *is* an organizational thing, but it's all paper or magnetic fields and it fits into a cubic foot of space. Alert the media, I've caught up with our bookkeeping. Boo-yah.

For some reason, I am tired. ealdthryth remarked that I seemed distracted this weekend. I suppose that I haven't recovered from the sleep deprivation, but I'm not sure that's the problem. Perhaps my SCA office retirement coupled with the projects at work fizzling has me casting around for something fulfilling to do. Decluttering the house (though it would make me happier) is not exactly a fulfilling or meaningful thing.

To add to my current lack of thrilledness, the pest control people came by to do the termite inspection and "found evidence of termite activity". Grumble. I also forgot about the canton "Coffee Night" and by the time I saw the reminder, it was too late to go and do much more than put in an appearance.

To balance out my disgruntlement, the kitties gave me an early Father's Day present. A TIX clock. I am amused.

Adventure Fu

The cats had a minor adventure last night. I got home later than usual thanks to crisis-du-jour at work. Being tired, I think I didn't close the kitchen door completely, and sometime around 8:30 or so, I heard noises from the kitchen. When I investigated, I saw that the kitchen door was open. I suspect either Ignatius or Kiera opened the door.

I looked around, and realized that none of the cats were in the house--they had all gone exploring in the garage. I got them back in with the promise of "TREATS!", although Josie didn't come in right away. I played with the garage door opener a little--that usually scares them back into the house if they venture into the garage. It took a couple of minutes, but eventually, I heard Josie meowing at the door, begging to be let back in.

Kitties had an adventure!

Last Exile

I really have been enjoying this series. The production designer was inspired by Bauhaus design and the art and architecture of the 1930's. The plot is becoming more complicated, and the holistic nature of the universe is becoming too conveniently coincidental, but it is still entertaining. They've mixed traditional animation with computer animation, and although not perfectly seamless, the combination makes for an interesting visual effect. They took a page from Joss Whedon's moving camera techniques that he used in Firefly, so the effect of the dogfights and airship battles looks a lot more effective than traditional animation would allow (without being prohibitively expensive).

Would You Care to Sniff the Bottle Cap?

Tuesdays are "Local Farmer's Market" day at Whole Foods. There weren't too many vendors, but I made the effort to buy locally. The vegetables consisted of stuff we don't generally eat (squash and tomatoes), but they did have broccol. I also picked up some local beef and chicken. The prices were more or less comparable to that of the store (the beef was a little higher). So far, I haven't been impressed with the broccoli, and the chicken was about equivalent--other than it was frozen and I had to wait a day for it to thaw. I will cook the steak tonight and see if we will continue to purchase the local stuff.

I actually did venture into the store to do the bulk of our shopping and picked up a bottle of Riesling that is labelled "Kung Fu Girl". It isn't a great wine, but it is light, not dry, and isn't overly sweet. And yes, as the title implies, it actually does have a twist-off cap.... I haven't really found a wine that I like consistently enough to buy on a "regular" basis.
